  • Those who support JD Vance don't care about evidence. They didn't care about it when it came to sex education, abortion, vaccines, or science in general.

    They really do believe that not all people are created equal and that only certain people (that look like them) should be procreating. Any policy that benefits everyone is doomed to fail because it also helps the people they hate and they'd rather go extinct than help a bunch of brown people/immigrants make more babies.

  • I mostly use my computer for:

    • CAD (both 3D modeling and circuit board design)
    • Programming (mostly embedded firmware in Rust lately)
    • Chatting because doing that on a phone is too slow and autocorrect sucks.
    • Work (remote desktop, mostly)
    • News
    • AI tomfoolery with stuff like Stable Diffusion and LLMs.

    Every now and again I'll get addicted to a new game and use my PC for that too. My latest addiction was Baldur's Gate 3 when it came out 🤷

  • Even removing the 14th amendment wouldn't take away non-citizen rights. The Bill of Rights applies to all persons living or residing within the United States. Regardless of whether or not they're citizens.

    Team Trump doesn't give a shit about the rule of law though 🤷

  • Conservatives only trust things they can see. If it can't be seen directly with the naked eye in real time it is a conspiracy or imaginary.

    It's why things like vaccines don't seem real to them. They can see the needle and the injection but what happens afterwards is an unknowable, untrustworthy thing.

    It's also why MAGA had such a hard time processing Biden's win. Saying things like, "he didn't even hold that many rallies" or "attendance at his rallies were low!" Because to them, a physical presence is necessary to convince anyone that someone is serious about winning their votes (or even real).

    Since anything unseen is scary to them it's easy to point the finger at people they don't see very often and say, "they're the ones responsible for your troubles!"

  • In college I would teach the latest quantum encabulator technology. I would open the class by hiding in a box and the students wouldn't know if I was actually alive in the box until they opened it. At which point I would demonstrate the process of using a matter translation array and quantum encabulation to be able to find the answers to such things without having to actually open the box by way of deterministic reality differentiation using a standard wainscotted multiversimeter.

  • Reminder: TikTok is not actually important. Everyone can live their lives without TikTok, YouTube, etc. There's an infinite amount of ways to entertain ourselves and there's a lot of competing apps.

    This isn't the government abusing its power to shut down some small business/upstart. It's shutting down a serious national security threat and a monopoly. TikTok has abused their position many times in many ways, refused to cooperate, and has reached the, "find out" phase.

    Why let the Chinese get all the eyeballs for propaganda? Surely we should give other nations a chance?

    IMHO they should shut down every app that is both popular and has an exceedingly difficult to penetrate monopoly. Let the competitors rush in and do a it again when the same situation occurs!
