  • Every municipality is different.

    Some do nothing except beep and vibrate for visually impaired people. That style, try holding it down for 3 seconds. When you get the walk sign you should get audio and tactile feedback.

    Some lights will not change to walk unless you press the button. Some only exhibit the behaviour at night.

  • I use Threadiverse to mean Lemmy Piefed Kbin and similar part of the Fediverse, nothing to do with Meta. I selected this terminology to differentiate it from microblogging platforms like Mastodon, though they are absolutely welcome to participate by posting to Lemmy and Piefed communities. With character limits and other structural design differences I suppose it is just a harder challenge. If you have suggestions for another name to describe topic-based online socializing I'm all ears.

    Through the 10th proposed category, I'm hoping to make people aware of that connection to the wider Fediverse with links to Masto, PeerTube etc.

    6. Make a post featuring a human-made piece of art.
    7. Make an on-topic comment to a post in a small community.
    8. Make a comment or post sharing news about a location relevant to you.
    9. Make a high-quality long form text post or comment.
    10. Post or comment a link from another part of the Fediverse.

  • It should be highlighted that while the amount of people who left Reddit for alternatives might not have made a dent to Reddit in the long-run, it really was what brought Lemmy from a small experiment of a few hundred users with a few dozen active posters, to the thousands it is today.

    It wasn't just the user count that changed, a lot of earlier Lemmy bugs started getting attention due to the need to scale, many more apps and frontends started being developed at the time, the lemmy community is multipolar, so it's not dependent on just .world or .ml, and compatible but separate implementations like kbin and piefed were developed. These are all benefits to an open ecosystem that you could argue stemmed from that protest. You can forget about needing to fix Reddit now if you want, because with enough effort, Lemmy is an adequate replacement.

  • Outgoing Rep. Thomas Massie and Sen. Rand Paul I think are the only Republican Congresspeople that are at least consistent in their Republican views, instead of tossing them aside whenever convenient for their party cult. Despite many of their positions being vile and bigoted, at least they will apply their principles evenly to both Republican and Democrat presidents.

    The other 99% of Republicans in Congress are vile AND also stand for nothing, if it gets in the way of supporting their fascist project.

  • If Northern KC Metro votes blue hard enough, this plan totally could blow up in Republicans' faces and hand districts 5 and 6 to Democrats. 2 and 3 don't seem out of the question either. Hopefully the national apparatus pays attention and puts effort in these kinds of races too.
