    So my main NAS is Unraid, and I also have a couple of proxmox boxes. Though I’m less concerned about the proxmox boxes as the main files are on the NAS, and I have a proxmox backup server vm set up on Unraid with regular backups there.

    For most of my important files on unraid, I have an external drive that I periodically sync and store in a safe.

    I also have access to a VPS with over 1TB of space which I am still figuring out how to best integrate into my backup strategy.

    For what I’m asking here, I just want to have a simple solution that I can tuck away and have remote access to and just use syncthing or something to keep it updated.

  • Hmm good point on it being usb2. I would only occasionally power it on to sync, and the sync could be 50Mb or 20Gb, but even then I think that should be ok.

    I have two spare low performance 4TB drives I was thinking to use for this. It’s not quite enough though. Would be ideal to find a way to be able to have someone there easily add a drive when needed 🤔

  • Legit. I had another plan with Rogers for over a year which was 75GB at 5G, Canada/US, and that was $25 CAD a month. Once the temp discounts ended, it was up to $35, and I had some travel planned, at which point i just hopped on the Freedom Roam Beyond plan. But yeah, we are definitely getting screwed haha.

  • Canada. $39.55 CAD per month (approximately 25€). Plan includes unlimited calling and text in Canada, US and Mexico, 75GB of data at 5G. Also includes roaming to over 100 countries, but limited to 10GB of data. Calling and texts are unlimited in the country where you roam. So for example, if you’re in Italy, it doesn’t cost anything to call or text Italian numbers, but if you were to call or text Japan, there would be a charge.

    Not as bad, but why does a camera stabilizer need my phone along with access to location, phone camera, storage and microphones to function. It connects via Bluetooth or control cable directly to the camera to control functions. The phone is needed because… reasons. There is actual reason why this device wouldn’t work without all of that.

  • Yikes! I’m in the market for a gimbal to expand my amateur videography hobby. Landed on the DJI RS3 mini, it was in my price range and is well reviewed. I then found the newer RS4 mini, for a bit more, and the extra features seemed worth it. Watched a few videos about it before pulling the trigger, and then noped right out of the purchase after finding that neither gimbal will work without the app. And needs all sorts of permissions that I’m just not going to give.

    Maybe I’ll do some meditation and tai chi instead to steady myself and get smoother shots.

  • Easily some of the best I’ve ever had. Recently visited their factory store in Amsterdam and stocked up (it is insanely expensive where I live, so it is definitely a special occasion bar).

  • I mean, yeah I get your point and see it from time to time as well.

    But, in my case, I have a 1080ti on EndeavourOS, another 1080ti on Nobara and a 3050 on Bazzite. Used for gaming, DaVinci Resolve, blender, stablediffusion and even streaming games to lower end machines. No issues on any of them, and anecdotally, better performance than the same gear on windows. The only thing that most recently popped up just a couple of days ago was trying to use Creality Print 5, it will seemingly not work with nvidia, but the previous version works fine.

  • Nice, thanks. I’m on nvidia. I was thinking about the quest simply because it is so much more affordable, and newer than the index. Only thing holding me back is I don’t have a meta account nor do I want to make one, even if it’s just for the quest.

  • Have you tried non official jellyfin clients? I had issues with the official app on AppleTV as well, so I switched to Infuse. The free app supports most things and I think the paid gives access to additional codecs if I recall correctly. The pro upgrade isn’t too expensive and the app is sleek across Apple devices. Only issue I’ve really had is sometimes if a video is not played to the end (as in, stopped during credits) it still shows up in the continue watching, but that might be a problem on my end.

    I think MXPlayer is similar on Android which might be worth checking out.

  • I actually tried this as my second step in trouble shooting, the first being using different ports.

    In the non-omada management software, it defaults to 10G, and if the devices is on before the switch it negotiates 10G correctly and works at full speed (tested with iperf3). As soon as any of the 10G connected devices is rebooted, I’m back to 1G. To fix it, I then have to set the port to 1G with flow control on, apply changes, save config, refresh page, change to 10G with flow control off, apply, save config and it goes back to 10G again. Alternatively I can reboot their switch and it’s fine again.

    In Omada its the same, fewer steps to get there but I have to sometimes do it 2-3 times before it works.

    Same issue with both 10G TP-Link switches, so I’m thinking it might be the SFP. Using Intel SFP+ with FS optical cables. I’m using a DAC for the uplink from the 10G switch to my unmanaged 2.5G switch, and that doesn’t have the problem of dropping, always works max speed.

  • Fair enough. Is there anything one can do to mitigate? Like I know for the recent issue in the news, a mitigation strategy for consumers is to basically reboot their router often. I keep my router and all hardware up to date, and try to follow news here. Not sure if there is really anything else I could do.

  • So I just added a TP-Link switch (TL-SG3428X) and access point (EAP670) to my network, using OPNSense for routing. I’m still within the return window for both items. I understand the article mentions routers, but should I consider returning these, and upping my budget to go for ubiquity? The AP would only be like $30 more for an equivalent, so that’s negligible, but a switch that meets my needs is about 1.6x more. And still only has 2 SFP+ ports, while I need 3 at minimum.
