Linux distros have the same kind of device ID mechanism (/etc/machine-id or /var/lib/dbus/machine-id)... the only difference is how applications use it.

Patently false. The rule says nothing about how the ADDW system must function. All the sites claiming that a camera is even required are completely making shit up.

It's up to each individual manufacturer to design a system that fulfills that purpose, however they feel like doing it.
The one saving grace here is that the 100 mile zone only applies to federal authorities... so a local police agency still needs a warrant to track you.
Why can it not be a simple "click here if you are over X age" button like it always has been? Where in the text of this new bill does it actually say more sophisticated checking is mandated? I feel like people are making wild assumptions about what's actually required, without reading the bill.
This does not restrict commercial data collection.
Does it apply to governments who have acquired commercial data collections? What if the government asks a company to search for someone but aren't given the entire history?
IMO history isn't relevant here though because I specifically quantified my statement with "at this moment in time" since I knew I would get a response like this.
"theoretically" is doing an enormous amount of heavy lifting here... tracking specific identifiable people in this manner (especially when multiple people are present) is about as close to sci-fi as we can get at this moment in time.
It's not that hard really... application-level firewall, only allow the apps you actually use. Or you could block all access from your router except to a proxy, and then configure just the apps you use to use the proxy. Eliminates 99.9% of unwanted outbound traffic.
Many other OSes, distros and apps phone home/have telemetry too (yes even Linux ones), it's not like this is some egregious behavior nobody else does.
