  • I see your point but there are to many options and preferences. For one, the borders to what is "Major hardware" are very subjective. So are people's need. (I'm your opposite: I must have a terminal, I don't care one bit about video acceleration and and my interest steam is an absolute zero)

So do that and you might end up with a windows-alike crappy platform. My expectations (and/or) hopes are that different distro's will keep focusing on different users groups. Some perfect for gaming, another for developers, a few for daily usage of email & browsing and so on

  • Are you saying seasoned windows users can't cope with LFS (linux from scratch) first time around? /s

  • You need to remark your files !! Just run sudo rm -Rf /

  • someone with a mind

That's a pretty bold assumption to make

  • "the fact that people are unimpressed with me ... is mindblowing to me" -- Trump

  • Exposing services to the internet is a whole other game. Try wireguard first, i never had issues and use it mostly from my tablet.

  • I'd almost created a new account to upvote you again

  • The only place I have that crap only on my work pc. You can't even move the taskbar to the left and vertical (which is super usefull with today's wide screens) but sure, let's focus on more of that hyped and useless ai shit.

  • The robot designers better stay clear from any window (maybe the curtain guys as well as)

  • Even holding up a black curtain was complicated

  • He ain't gonna follow through so what does it matter it doesn't add up ???

  • I have yet to bring it up in the middle of an unrelated argument but ive still got it in my back pocket

oooohhhh you master of evil you what ??? do you have a death-wish ?? (please let us know how that works out for you a couple of weeks after you pulled your card) ;) ;)

  • Mandatory app to fly? No fucking way!

  • I know and I agree. I still want an air-gap backup. Because ......it's air gapped

  • Eli5: I was convinced advertising degraded everything in my life. Apperantly I'm wrong...... how does advertising "elevate" my quality of life and comfort.

  • I have an apc 3000 which is a fantastic device. But it uses more power than my pc, switch, router and ap's combined. The grid is stable enough for me to rely on things to survive or can be restored from either the local or the offsite backup.

  • I copy my data to a nas at home. That copies once a day to an off-site nas. Once in a while I connect an external disk to the nas and copy all and disconnect it.

Perfect or not, compliant with backup procedures or not ..... it works for me and i'm happy having with an air gap backup.

  • Not that it makes it easy to go a month without a paycheck

isn't it common practice/advice in the USA to have a buffer ? I know not everyone has the opportunity to do so, but I taught my kids to aim for a buffer of at least 2x netto paycheck to cover emergencies/unforeseen. Or if the own a house, car etc aim for 8x. They still do that and it helped them to stay out of debt (other than for buying the house).

  • Dutch army '87-'88. One of the things they had as a rule: you would be placed in a position where you could learn a new thing. That mean that t.ex. a carpenter was learned how to cook while a cook was learned carpentry.
