  • In the 1980s, Frito Lay test marketed a new extruded Cheeto-like product that was filled with an easy cheese filling. There was even a pbs documentary about it centered around how new snacks are made.

    I wish I could remember the name of the snack and/or find the documentary online. They were yummy but they didn’t last long. I think there were like three different flavors and they were cut at an angle.

  • If what is burned is used to creat electricity, then in a way it is recycling. Burning trash isn’t a bad thing if it’s done properly and if what’s burned isn’t otherwise recyclable. Plastics should probably be burned at this point rather than thrown in a landfill or tossed in the ocean.

  • Meh. There are voting systems that:

    • take your vote electronically
    • print out a readable receipt of your selections so you can double check it
    • then scan your receipt to cast your vote

    This means you can get an instant result, audit the system, and do a hand recount. Not all voting computers are garbage. Both parties should be pushing for audits and hand counts as a safety check.

  • In the US, I would make history part of the standardized testing done by states and make it part of SAT/ACT tests. Too often it’s a neglected subject even though there are many valuable lessons from it.

    Same with government class. People need to understand how government works, how to get involved, how to vote. Make high school students attend a court trial one week as part of their class. Make them vote in a mock election using the actual voting equipment used in elections.
