    Sick burn. And a bit depressing.

    This feels like a generational gap, but I'm not sure if progressives have enough power to fight it. And in our current age, the only ones with the appetite to fight with more violent means are on the side of the authoritarians.

  • The second reason why I have always advised my teams not to consider “culture-fit” when interviewing prospective employees is that it is a covert way of discriminating against people who have otherwise protected attributes (race, religion, gender, sexuality etc).

    There's a difference between "culture fit" and "hive mindedness". I've seen singular employees turn a good workplace into one with strife because that one employee has vastly different goals about how to run things, and it doesn't go away until that employee is fired.

    Also, it's not about discriminating against future hires. It's about not hiring shitty employees who would discriminate against their own co-workers.

  • I don't see any evidence this actually happened besides some news article talking about some guy's tweets. Given the hyperbole, I'm more likely to think he's just lying through his teeth and didn't do any of those. I can tweet whatever the hell I want and pretend to own a company, too.

  • Except that outsourcing sort of works for some jobs, with some expectation of (low) quality.

    LLMs are a tool that solve for, at a very very optimistic peak, 60% of the work, and still need humans to refine it into something better. And I don't mean it would generate a 60% quality product. It's just an unrefined, unfinished shape of clay at that point.

    You can't just fire all of the devs, replace them with AI, and expect to get anything out of it. You still need people to try to do something with that AI, and they need to be developers.

  • I can fetch the damn thumbnail just fine. I have to do it on every YT post I submit.

    Reddit can fetch thumbnails from hundreds of websites, all of them different, including a bunch of porn sites. Pretty sure they have to code each site to map out the right URL and tags to parse.

    I know Lemmy is OSS, but I really wish it wasn't so slow on the uptake with these things.
