  • Wow I'm just so surprised. I was there when they were bought out and they kept saying over and over again it's a separate company. And I always said "for now". What a shocker.

Management kept telling us based on the acquisition IBM wasn't allowed to fully consume Red Hat. Again which I said " for now".

Oh so surprised ... Fuck corporations. I sit have friends at Red Hat and it just keeps getting worse there from what I hear. Quantity is more important than quality.

If you're a customer the only way to get a resolution now is demand a phone call as they're no longer able to deny that and work on the case. They're just a call center and not real support.

  • We predict that we'll sell more shovels in the future despite no one finding gold. Just keep digging!

  • Most electric cars still have more than 80% capacity after 200,000 miles. Some at 300,000 miles.

  • Cory Doctorow is fantastic. I spoke with him on Fireside Fedi and he's just brilliant and has seen some amazing tech. We even talked about his deep crack. That and lots of other interviews with Fedi folks for anyone interested: https://video.firesidefedi.live/w/huevh4L6r1yMYXqcQMi8gR

  • Thank YOu!

  • Talking with Ben Pate today at 1500 Eastern. Robert is tomorrow at 1100

  • No harm in that. To each their own. :-) Everyone gets to decide at least.

  • Good plan. Keep locking down your big tech platforms, and we'll all be over here letting folks know where they can find freedom.

  • Actually going to be talking with Robert W. Gehl tomorrow on Fireside Fedi! I just found out about him, a few weeks ago, and he's written extensively on social media. I've unfortunately not been able to acquire any of his books to prepare, but they seem to all be incredibly interestingly titled.

  • I have a friend that also brought up discoverability as an issue, so she stayed on Twitch. Twitch also has a massive discoverability problem and they have numerous tools, but there's so much noise it's impossible to rise above it.

With Owncast discoverability is organic atm. It's a tiny, but growing pond. Like anything else anymore, if you want to be discovered you have to do the leg work.

But it's definitely NOT Twitch and you won't get famous or make tons of money.

What you can do though is control your platform, stream what you want, etc.

  • I personally LOVE Owncast. It's how I've met numerous folks and built a community. I use my own for games and tech, https://stream.ozoned.net . I've even done some testing to see how much overhead it needs, https://video.firesidefedi.live/w/1itGRqF41XeTfrismnsesL , and how many opens streams you can have.

I also use Owncast to livestream my Fireside Fedi episodes, https://stream.firesidefedi.live . I even spoke with Gabe Kangas on the show in the past https://video.firesidefedi.live/w/nyM8V7WzVb1f2GehjAdSTX

I've spoken to numerous folks that flat out tell me it can't work. With THOUSANDS of people you'd probably hit bandwidth limitations, but there's S3 buckets and CDNs. Whether they'll let you push livestreams to those for the long term is yet to be seen.

I'm very biases though as I love Owncast, I love controlling MY platform, and I love Fedi. Also I run the unofficial owncast community.

  • US has done it before. Stem cell research has been held back in the US even before it could PROVE that it was effective. Here, mRNA PROVED it worked and we're undoing it. This is worse than ignorance. It's down right maliciously negligent. Once again all because of their beliefs that science is wrong.

  • <me looks around>

    . All good over here!

  • Asking the tough questions.

  • It's a spoontula, cousin of the spork. It is created when a spoon and a spatula love each other enough to transcend reality. Just don't ever let two spoontulas stay in one area as they're very territorial and will attack each other. That's how the spoon drawer gets all messed up.
