This is going to federate via ActivityPub. My understanding if you'll have a centralized repo under someone or some business. But you could have your own account and fork their repo to your federated server. You can work there, push changes and it goes up.
Being AP you can follow changes, get alerts on releases, etc.
"What about forge federation?
Federation is under active development, and is considered experimental. This is because many required features−notably moderation and access control−have not yet been developed.
The Forgejo project reserves the right to make breaking changes to its federation components with no prior warning. Such changes may be “backwards incompatible” and could result in the (sub-)domain used for your Forgejo instance to be “burned”. This means that the domain will no longer be usable for ActivityPub-based federation in the future, no matter whether you set up Forgejo from scratch or choose to use other software that uses ActivityPub.
For more information on implemented features and future federation-related plans, check out the federation roadmap.
If you are interested in working on federation-related code, consider joining our federation-focused Matrix room: #forgejo-federation:matrix.org (web link)"
Digital sovereignty. Codeberg is funding development of forgejo. Forgejo will federate to other instances. So you can have your own repo and someone on another forgejo can interact remotely. So no need for centralized platforms anymore. Power of the Fediverse! :-)
I've been playing with Emissary and having exactly the thought about that as GeoCities. No official instance or anything yet, but it seems to allow you to do just that. Has a WYSIWYG builder or HTML and CSS or markdown. Ben Pate, creator of Emissary, created bandwagon.FM with it.
I find this part just jaw dropping. Absolute corruption in plain sight
"The Justice Department dropped its investigation into Polymarket. Donald Trump Jr., the president's son, became an adviser to the company and his venture capital firm, 1789 Capital, invested millions into Polymarket. Trump's regulators approved a deal allowing a separate version of Polymarket to re-enter the U.S. Administration officials invited Coplan to the White House for a roundtable on cryptocurrency."
I hope it's Codeberg. I think it's a fork of gitea. And gitea can be migrated to Forgejo, which is working on federation. So I can have my server, pull code to it, work on it and for a PR to your server. No more needing accounts everywhere. And the federation well be ActivityPub powered!
I was watching the bipartisan senate hearing on 230. Even Ted Cruz, and every witness there, said 230 should exist, but it needs AMENDED! And they want it to include AI companies. Meaning they'll be responsible for the content that users create.
I did a reacts video on this for folks that ate interested:
Liability or Deniability? Platform Power as Section 230 Turns 30
' Upon announcing the hearing, Sen. Cruz said: “Big Tech—the most powerful companies on Earth—can exercise monopoly power to make views they dislike disappear and that should scare everyone. When it comes to viewpoint suppression, however, repealing section 230 might increase censorship. I look forward to hearing from our witnesses and discussing possible reforms to section 230 so online platforms are a free and open marketplace for ideas.” '
Pretty much every Fediverse project I've seen uses RSS. Want to follow someone on Mastodon without and account? RSS. It's built in. Follow a person, hashtag, etc.
Gancio, federated calendar app, you can use RSS.
Peertube, follow a channel via RSS.
I use the Matrix RSS bot in a news channel to follow bunch of tech stuff.
I did. That's all I know of Vivaldi doing. I think Vivaldi is interested in ActivityPub, but I haven't seen any other work from them about AP and the browser.
So there will be speed demoes in the morning, and those will go up on Peertube somewhere. If I can, I'll get a link ASAP. If they don't go up, I'll put them up on my tubefree.org peertube.
As for the rest, it's an unconference, so it's mostly doing break out sessions and it's AWESOME imo. There will be notes written down, but no videos of discussions.
I think Johanness does post all the notes and videos though.
" the amount of time" so is this by the minute? That's really gross imo and makes me want to stay off there even more. Thank you Fedica! :D
