  • If you called a taxi company that didnt do fixed rates you should have looked into them before you called.

    Why would I call them? They should have a web app at minimum. It should be on par with what the Uber app can do.

    When taxis catch up, I'll consider them.

    If you consider a ride "mooching" I would not want to be your friend.

    Calling a friend to ensure myself a ride to anywhere at any time at my sole discretion and choosing is mooching if I expect that.

    If your public transit isnt good enough, call your local reps and COMPLAIN.

    That doesn't get me to where I'm going.

    Agreed. I'd much rather have the whole cost of the trip paid for up front from the start. No added taxes, fees, or bonuses at any point.

    Do you verify with each driver to make sure they end up getting the money? Uber has obfuscated tipping for drivers FOR YEARS.

    I looked it up and saw that Uber was misleading/lying about a portion of the cost of a trip going to drivers. But from what I've read, including from Uber drivers themselves, the tips do seem to go to the driver as is paid by the passenger.

  • Taxi drivers and taxi companies rip off passengers. Taxi companies don't do fixed rates agreed-upon before the trip.

    I'm not going to mooch off a friend.

    Public transit can't always get me where I need to go when I need to get there in a reasonable time (but it is my first choice when it's too far or unpleasant to walk).

    If the issue is the drivers not being paid well, then tip well.

    When taxis and/or public transit can improve their services to the point where Uber doesn't replace them, then Uber will be redundant.

  • To me, lowering taxes and lessening regulations sounds like "We don't want to break the whole system or aggravate you. We just want to make the system worse and make life harder for people who don't have money".

    The way I see it is that we could have lower taxes for working class people by taxing the rich more and reducing corporate welfare. We wouldn't even have to compromise on our systems. If you're in favour of those, that's awesome -- I haven't met very many conservatives who think that way.

    But what's wrong with regulations? Regulations are what stop corporations from cutting corners on health and safety in the name of profits. And we can see from practices around the world that not only does violating these tend NOT to sway public opinion enough that businesses will stop doing harmful things, but they will knowingly do these things and cause harm to people who couldn't have known any better beforehand.

  • Of the ones I'm aware of, most jobs that can be done from home require strong (professional) writing skills. I know this isn't a job application, and I recognize that English might not be your first language, so this may not be relevant to you.

    Some tips based on your post:

    • Apostrophes are almost never used to make words plural. (Allergy becomes allergies)
    • There, they're, and there are different. "There" is like "where" and "here" (note the spelling). "They're" = "they" + "are" (with the ' symbolizing the missing "a")
    • Adding apostrophes to your contractions (don't, I'm, ...) goes a long way in making your writing look professional.

    That said, you might be able to look for data annotation jobs, or even potentially transcription jobs. Video game play testing could also potentially be an option, but I'm not sure where to start looking there.

  • I think in some unskilled labour, you can provide value on day one. You won't know all the processes, but you'd be able to perform some of the duties. Cleaning up, stocking shelves, etc.

    • Skilled labour: Jobs that require education or extensive training to be able to perform
    • Semi-skilled labour: Jobs that require minimal or no education, but require some extent of on-the-job training to be able to perform the basic duties.
    • Unskilled labour: Jobs that require no education, and can be effectively performed on day one by a new hire.

    I'm sure there's also a "highly skilled labour" category that encompasses jobs that require extensive education, training, and practice, but I'm not really sure where to draw the line.
