  • With all the cameras in DC, surely he has footage of said vandals, right?

  • There was a movie about the formation of NWA that I watched a few years ago. I wish I could remember the name of it. It was really great and I learned a lot I didn't know about them. I'll try to think of the name and will update this comment if I can find it.

Edit - duh it was Straight Outta Compton of course. I highly recommend this film. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_Outta_Compton_(film)

  • Invariably these articles about Republicans/magas turning on trump use headlines that make it sound like it's some kind of sea change, and then you get into the article and it's one or two people.

  • I like your way of looking at it!

  • There's a lot of awful things being done under Trump, but this blatant and open voter disenfranchisement by the Republicans in a bunch of states is in my top ten, and very worrisome. It's among a few things that make me worry the midterms aren't going to go like people think they will.

  • I only wish the execution would have been better. At least all digits as visible as the 8.

  • I have gpt4all installed and just for kicks I just asked it three times "Who is Elias Thorne?" It gave me three different answers, including one answer claiming he's a character from The Last of Us and another claiming he's a character from Stranger Things.

  • out-of-the-box experience is still pretty terrible (looking especially at KDE here).

I have to wonder how long ago you used KDE. It has very sane defaults these days, and arguably has since the Plasma 5 days.

  • BSG is the best sci-fi TV ever made.

    I absolutely agree with that.

  • I literally just watched the episode where Tigh poisons his own wife for collaboration with the Cylons. (And she takes the cup knowingly.)

I'd say that's going pretty hard for sure.

  • Public Enemy, RATM, The Coup , Dropkick Murphys all have been mentioned, but I'll mention them again.

Brother Ali isn't always political, but Uncle Sam Goddamn is so on the nose it is worth including him here.

I'm sure I'm leaving out some more good ones, but go watch that Brother Ali video if you aren't already familiar with the song. :)

    Also there is !leftymusic@lemmy.world

  • I'm in my late 50s and had such high hopes for what the 21st century would bring when I was a kid.

Turns out it's brought an increasingly bleak dystopian hellscape. And a shitload of my countrymen are cheering for it.

  • There's a DDG privacy first browser on Android. This is probably what they are referring to.

  • The problem was nearly four years of "this time we're really gonna get Trump" in the context of the J6 investigation, the documents he hoarded in his bathroom, etc, and not a damn thing actually happened. The man is white and wealthy and we had four years to see what white and wealthy gets you - teflon skin apparently.

So it's a little bit hard to imagine dems coming out hard enough to secure consequences of any kind for him. I'm hopeful, sure, and I'm glad they are planning. What I lack faith in is the effectiveness of the plans.

  • Came to say Requiem for a Dream but I see that's well represented.

I'll go with Legends of the Fall - a story told across multiple generations of a family, and damn near nothing but tragedy for any of them. It left me feeling so bleak towards the world. (Decades ago that I watched it, but that's my recollection.)

Pink Floyd The Wall - also just left me feeling like humanity is just endlessly fucked up and mostly terrible to each other.
