old, stupid

  • i moved my mbin instance from one of the more expensive options, amazon, to hetzner coming up on almost a year ago now.

they have some used, dedicated servers that you can get diirt cheap. when they raised all the prices mine went up maybe 3%. and thats after more than halving my monthly cost by moving there in the first place. no big deal.

its clearly their cloudy hardware (scaling) used for ai nonsense that they are pushing rates up on, for those obvious reasons. they dont give a shit who pays and theres lots of stupidly deep ai pockets at the moment

  • "You don’t have to wish me a happy birthday, because I’m not happy about that birthday. It’s a number that I never thought really too much about. It’s not a number I like, but I’m here nonetheless.” - a giant orange human-shaped piece of feces

he clearly didnt expect to live this long, which explains his complete lack of planning in anything whatsoever

  • im a simple user

I don't really like watching things

then this shit aint for you. just because you can do something doesnt mean you have to want to do it.

im old and have been doing this for almost 30 years. long before jellyfin; my kids never suffered commercials, never had to worry about some streaming service going up or down. they never had to care whether some source had the show they wanted. even when away from home, they were streaming my shit.

my very large curated collection may be less random than some iptv streams, but sure as fuck is more reliable, dependable, quality controlled and well, i dont even need to have fucking internet access for my shit (my library) to work for me.

  • checks on the executive are irrelevant if the branches holding the sticks for those checks literally couldnt be bothered to do their jobs.

the orange turd knows that he can grift the entire american democracy into oblivion far faster than the courts can stop him. speed matters.

they barely able to enforce actual laws now against the orange feces administration, why would new ones matter?

  • cats dont crack

  • DMA breaches can cost companies fines as much as 10% of their global annual turnover.

fuckin awesome. imagine hitting companies where it hurts instead of, ya know, the cost-of-doing-business fines the u.s. imposes.

  • i get it. i ran my own server for 15 years... and i stopped ~ 8 years ago. it was just too annoying between the spam filtering and -todays-new-security-enhancement-

email is the one service im happy to pay someone to do.. from a bunker in switzerland. google not required.

...but you cant not use email and function in the technological world of today. email isnt about communication any longer. its about security and authentication.

  • its interesting this pointed list of the ways the llms fail standard coding/engineering practices or lack complete project visibility... wont this just then be utilized to help resolve those deficiencies in future iterations?

  • the confederacy finally won all 3 branches. of course this is happening

  • giving rich people more money is important for 'job creation'.

the lie that killed the middle class

  • personally, this is the kind of laser focused tooling its good for. LLMs are going to be critical to assisting the disabled in many contexts.
