I try to contribute to things getting better, with humor, sourced information, OC and polite rational skepticism.Disagreeing with a point ≠ supporting the opposite side, I support rationality.Let's discuss to make things better sustainably.Always happy to question our beliefs.

  • They over-consumed the goods from those countries and they lost their minds.

  • I think it's already the case for 1080p at the distance most people put their TV.

  • Yep, literally the whole habitable layer of our planet.

  • I don't think they care as much for minimizing trauma as they care for cheap labor from a developing country. I doubt there are a lot of 4chan users there.

  • I didn't know about that. Do you have a reliable source?

  • See how little the recent “No Kings” protests have accomplished vs the death of that one health insurance ceo.

What did the murder of this CEO accomplish?

  • That's... impressive.

  • Single hand submissions are welcome, like mine.

  • Simple yet elegant

  • Edward something-hands?

  • You don't have hands or you don't have a shadow?

  • Cute!

  • Impressive

  • You have been a user for 3 years at least, surely you have heard about the tankie situation on Lemmy? If you don't share these views it's better to ignore/block those three or four instances. It will make your Lemmy experience much more relaxing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie

  • I liked the writing and agree with the general reasons, but this is going a tad bit too far:

Instead it [the fediverse] became the only place consistently posting trustworthy information I could actually access.

There's no reason to think things are more trustworthy or less biased here than on commercial social media. The fact that people here are not trying to build a brand because there's no money to make in this small network is not enough to make it more trustworthy. It may make conversations more genuine, but that's not a guarantee for correctness either.

  • My experience of working in a tech company in Japan is that most engineers are not Japanese, they are mostly Chinese, Indian, other Asian countries, a few Westerners and then Japanese. Those recommendations are still relevant in this context. I would add, use short sentences. When you are learning a language, long sentences are really hard. It saturates your "guess-understanding" memory buffer.

  • Motorola Mobility belongs to Chinese Lenovo but headquarters are in Chicago. Not sure if that makes it better or worse regarding privacy and surveillance compared to USA only.

  • The red line is the amount of cash they are ready to compromise for.
