  • I don't really believe in disney style everlasting romantic "soul mate" type love. As in you're trying to apply a loosely defined social construct to your emotions, feelings, thoughts, and hormones... it's just not going to make sense.

I think a better question is whether you're misleading your partner for personal gain. It sounds like the answer to that is no.

However, you do need to consider whether there's a power imbalance, and what the implications of that might be in the future. Most bad relationship situations tend to happen where one or other person doesn't have the same agency as the other. When a partner is wealthier or older or even just better employed, you can find yourself having to be submissive at every moment.

  • you seem to have missed my point.

If humanity's energy requirements without AI are x, and AI's requirements are an additional y, then AI is reponsible for the worst energy sources up to the value of y.

  • It doesn't make any difference whether they use coal, nuclear, or renewables.

If they were using renewables the rest of us would need the coal generated power to keep the lights on.

  • It was.

  • *reeks

  • The rules about insider trading only exist to make poor people feel better.

  • Physical exercise doesn't make your body more effective at fighting viruses. That's covid-era anti-vax meme level reasoning.

  • Yeah, well.

It's the functional equivalent of walking around recording video of everything on your phone.

Even if you're not actually recording anything, if there's no way for me to know that I'm just going to treat you like you are.

  • I don't think you really get significantly less effective at fighting off viral infections until you get really old and start collecting co-morbidities.

If you're more "active" as in socialising more, you'll catch more viruses.

  • This is the answer.

Getting the inspector to take a look isn't an accusation, it's just to confirm that everything is as it seems.

  • If someone offered you half a million a year you'd take it.

If other people with similar skills, experience, and attributes to yours were making more than you, you would want more.

It's not really that much money. Your local family doctor can make that much. Surgeons and medical specialists certainly can.

  • there is no justification for paying a manager five to ten times as much as an engineer

The justification is, the market is competitive. If you want someone with the right skills, you need to provide them similar benefits to what they could receive elsewhere.

Suppose you only paid CEO's and other management the same rate as engineers. Do you think wikipedia's performance would be equal to what it presently is ?

  • ... or they just don't have elections.

He's already spoken about it. If there's a "war" they don't need elections.

  • Reddit users and now lemmy users seem to have a riotous distaste for non-profits generally.

Wikipedia is one of the last, good parts of the internet, and it's under increasing threat.

  • Sorry, what is the actual thinking here? Anyone who earns more than you shouldn't exist?

Without a highly paid CEO, wikipedia wouldn't exist.

    Without donations, wikipedia wouldn't exist.

Therefore, if you want wikipedia to exist, you should donate.

  • Every organisation appears wasteful. Whether it's a non-profit, local club, or government organisation.

  • console for quick and dirty understanding but inspector for more complex fixes.

  • Uh, yeah.

I tried something similar with a few friends.

My biceps and pecs got a tiny bit bigger. Like I noticed but I doubt anyone else did.

The key I would recommend with a challenge like this is to start small. This is not a "start as you mean to continue" type thing. If you start with 100 pushups on day one you can probably tough it out but I'll be fucked up on day two.

If a gimmick like 100 whatever for 100 days helps you then that's great. However, it's just like any other kind of exercise. Some is better than none.

This is not a humble brag. I'm still overweight. I'm just trying to say this kind of thing is easier than it sounds and not really life changing.

  • It's really sickening that every corporation has thrown in with the new fascist regime.

At least these assholes used to pretend to be "not absolutely awful". Now they're just mask-off oppressors.
