  • Is it weird that I've never heard this term "mutual aid" before this thread but apparently everyone here knows all about it?

    Anyway. There's just no way I'd give real money to someone asking for it like this because for every real person there must be a dozen scammers at least. It honestly seems crazy to me that this could work and people could send money.

    If people are giving money away like this then they're part of the problem IMO. You're encouraging scammers, and perpetuating the practice, diverting money away from the people who actually need it.

    There's just no fucking way you should go to a protest with your daily driver, secure or not.

    I also wouldn't go without any form of communication. You need to be able to receive information from organisers. Maybe go with a buddy who has a burner and not take anything yourself, but expect to get separated if you're in a larger group.

    I personally wouldn't be too spooked beyond that, but of course it depends on the level of "activism" you're going to be involved in. As in I wouldn't dick around taking the battery out, and I'd save relevant contacts in the phone.

    They're not going to go all CSI miami on your device and your contacts. If they ask you to unlock your phone they will just be looking for selfies of you doing something incriminating.

    The entry level stuff is pleasant and manageable and easy, but if you progress far enough to make money you produce value by managing unsolvable problems which is stressful, frustrating, and difficult.

  • Yeah look I'm not an AI advocate at all. If I were confronted with this my first instinct would be to manipulate it in a spreadsheet because they can juggle data types like this pretty effortlessly.

    The CSV / dates thing was just an example, but I still think it's a good one. My assistant at work would 100% use notepad like this rather than using a spreadsheet.

    It's also worth pointing out that notepad + LLM would be a lot more flexible than a spreadsheet. Just paste whatever there and explain what you want in plain english. You don't need to parse your request into regex or spreadsheet formulas. For you and I, we might have spent years interacting with regex and other things such that it's a pleasant challenge when it arises. For 20 year old me it would have been a tedious impediment to whatever I was trying to achieve.

    Like the other commenter said for this specific problem you'd use a spreadsheet.

    It's just an example though and there are others, like maybe removing url encoding from a string or something.

    Again this can be done in some other tool without much fuss, but the versatility offered by notepad will be useful for a lot of people.
