I don't agree. It is capitalism, but not in a bad way. Simply put it is economy logic. Chip market has shifted from consumer market to the enterprise market.
So because the supply is limited, the demand has gone way up, and enteprise market has a lot, a mean a lot of money to spare buying, because it is an investment for them and not entertainment.
Also some bad capitalist tacticts in other areas, hard drives for example, that the big players reduced production to keep prices from falling. They cotribute to the problem, but they are not the major factor.
Russians started the war and invaded Ukraine. It is completely different. For example, in a parallel Universe if China would persuade Canada to leave NATO, and then USA invade them, USA would have started the war, but China would have dragged Canada to war.
Munich Security Conference 2022 was 1 month before war. They all new that Russia will invade if Ukraine kept going with the NATO business, but the only thing they did, was persuading them to go for and we will support you.
Who persuaded them to join NATO without offering security against Russia? And when the war was ready to start they did not even tried to persuade them to abort (Munich security conference 2022).
It is really simple. You put a swastika on your flag, blow an important empty building and you say the country is in an emergency, transfering all powers to White House.
I don't know about HDDs but for SSDs they hit a very low price last September 2023, and the companies decided to cut production so the prices go up again. It worked, today SSD drives are more expensive than last year. I bet they did something similar to the HDD, but it's only hypothetical.
