  • The 870 tonnes of CO2 the E network now produces for yearly operation is equivalent to eating 290000 cheeseburgers, as much as the world eats burgers in one day and one hour.

  • Already banned

  • Banning some technology just because it "harms the reputation" of a platform sounds a lot like Visa and PayPal attacks on Steam and Itch Io to ban NSFW games.

Crypto technology is diverse. Nano and NanUSD are completely carbon-neurtal as they have zero fees. Gridcoin helps scientific research.

Crypto may be tainted in the US where banking systems are okay, but for individuals in third-world sanctioned countries like Iran it is a life saver. For people in authoritarian countries, it is the only way to fund journalism and civil rights organisations that are illegal in their countries.

The original proposal contained a ban on all blockchain technology, and another code hosting service did that. It is a technology that is used by some governments to democratise digital elections. Fraud in 2022 Moscow council elections was uncovered because they relied on a blockchain technology.

  • If copyright status is the reason, they should ban any, even a single-line AI contributions.

And it seems a short-sighted decision. Now AI is slop, but what about in 10? 20 years? They would rewrite TOS again?

And what about people they want to migrate from GitHub?

  • OpenStreetMap editing, photography for Panoramax

  • c/accidentalrenissance

  • Factories are designed around human workers.

  • I like how people from richer countries invented the word “expat” just to not refer to themselves as “migrants”

  • Inflation happens when new money are printed. As there's more money, each individual cent can buy less real goods. What than could be bought for 50¢, now costs $7.

  • Not looking for "just work hard," genuinely curious what actually got you through a phase like this, and how you dealt with the guilt of relying on parents at this age.

You need to understand that it is not something you need to feel guilty for. Economy is in recession, every working person is struggling, and if you have parents who you can rely on financially — good for you. Especially if they are wealthy enough to support you indefinitely. I would never bother to work if I had parents like that.

  • Accounting for inflation, that's $7 in today's money

  • No punchline, just found such hardline requirements potentially entertaining.

  • Please put an NSFW tag on this. I was on the train and when I saw this I had to start furiously masturbating. Everyone else gave me strange looks and were saying things like “what the fuck” and “call the police”. I dropped my phone and everyone around me saw this image. Now there is a whole train of men masturbating together at this one image. This is all your fault, you could have prevented this if you had just tagged this post NSFW.

  • Most social media are commercial, privately owned, proprietary, centralised, and hence prone to enshittification. If a company will start to make anti-consumer moves to increase profit, most people will be too locked-in and invested to care to switch. Fediverse is a collection of independent instances in one decentralised network, constantly competing with each other with no full monopoly possible, and working under an open and forkable protocol.
