  • I think that The Expanse did a great job at leveraging the green screen thing for comms. Because they don't have FTL, the less conversational feeling really works because, in-universe, they're basically never speaking in real-time.

  • Maybe the holograms aren't really 1:1 "images" but, instead, like avatars. This would also help to explain what the problem holographic communicator is able to get the whole body, including the back.

  • Part of the reason for my use of "might".

  • Gen Z or Alpha might see a return to life as good as 2015 in their lifetimes. The rest of us? Nope.

  • For anyone who does not speak biologist/zoologist, what the two at the bottom are saying translates to:

    Creature of peak evolutionary development.

  • Yeah. I like using main() that way too. It's usually just a high-level function that handles globals relevant to running in standalone and calling other functions to do work.

  • This is exactly why the conditional is used. It allows the script to function both as a standalone application and a library.

ETA: Probably would make sense to just treat it as default behavior in the interpreter and only require the conditional to overwrite in cases where main is not the main function and/or pre-processing is needed.

  • Thanks very much for the long reply.

You can talk about coming of age topics and address the concepts without directly showing things on screen. Many pieces of media have done so without that, and do so with making clear the creep doing the grooming is not a positive character in the slightest.

This is indeed what gave me most conflict. The ripperdoc is a creep and didn't seem very positive to my memory but I haven't seen it for a quite a while. Not only was he being creepy but was basically a drug dealer (illegal BDs) preying on a kid, and was an enabler, helping David get into the fucked up life of a merc (and implanting the sande).

  • People who will not have to live with the consequences of their political decisions, on account of likely dying before the bill is due, have no business being in office. It places too great of a conflict of interest and supports the Chicago School economic bullshit of never looking past the current quarter. Sure, there are a good chunk of people who would aim for long-term stability out of altruism but they are not generally those who seek to hold political power until they die.

It's really past time for boomers and the silent generation to allow the rest of us to determine our own fates, rather than continuing to take loans out on their grandchildrens' futures (that we're stuck paying for).

  • Pure entitlement mindset.

If your business is not able to stay afloat while providing fair compensation to those whose labor is used, whether employee, co-owner, or third-party, you are not entitled to keep running it. Society doesn't have a duty to prop up wealthy thieves.

  • Honest question: Assuming that you're also referring to the creepy ripperdoc porn stuff. Is that really sexualizing the underage character? It does not seem to be something that is trying to make the character sexually attractive to the viewer. It does fit in with the hypersexualized setting and acknowledge that sexual thoughts and sexual identity don't begin at age 18.

  • And nothing of value to humanity was lost.

  • You had a choice, you made the wrong decisions, now own it.

The pro-genocide protest (non-)voters have bought into the propaganda so thoroughly that I'm doubting that they'll accept responsibility even on their deathbeds at this point. They didn't give a shit about anyone or anything but performative actions to stroke their own egos and telling themselves that they are morally superior. There was one the other day who even admitted that they put their own SO's life at risk but still see no fault in their actions and blame dems and strategic voters for their own choice to support making genocide worse.

  • With the video game industry's history of unfair labor practices, the burden of proof for credibility that this did not violate contract is on Epic.

  • My argument is that the LLM is just a tool. It's up to the person that used that tool to check for copyright infringement. Not the maker of the tool.

Build an inkjet printer exclusively out of stolen parts from HP, Brother, and Epson and marketed as being so good that experts can't differentiate what they print from legal currency (except sometimes it adds cartoonish moustaches). Start selling it in retail stores alongside them. They would battery be announced, much less stocked on the shelves before C&D letters and/or arrest warrants arrived.

  • Use the modulo operator? Nah. Need to import the isEven library and a ton of other unnecessary sub-50 LOC libraries "maintained" by a single dev to make their CV look more impressive. /s

  • Those that can't find jobs are just supposed to die in the gutter. Literally the philosophy.

  • I feel like he's trying to make "nerve stapling" from Sid Meyer's Alpha Centauri a thing.
