I'm a climate scientist by trade. Interested in interesting things. Ecology, complexity, politics, social change, music.

  • Hell yea. I used some oil recently that had be used to good something (IDK.. housemate food) with heaps of curry powder flavours and some chilli. That was awesome.

  • Popcorn made in pre-used oil can be awesome, and an easy way to get rid of 100ml or so.

  • Boil some red lentils, add carrots when they're half done. Then some coconut cream and a stock cube. Fry up some onion and garlic with cumin and coriander powder, then chuck that in too. Eat with rice. Add some sambal.

  • OMG, TLAs are the worst, there are so many of them

  • Corporate nursing homes milking them of all their remaining inheritable money.

  • Without specifics, this is a meaningless question with an embedded insult.

  • Ok

  • Use a different software then? Federation is a core aim of lemmy, what's the point complaining about it?

Or alternatively, perhaps present some kind of alternative solution that you think would deal with this problem as you see it..

  • although that isn't the place for random complains. Well laid out bug reports and feature requests, for sure though.

  • I use subscribed feeds, sorted by "scaled". It pushes stuff from smaller communities I'm interested in up higher. Scaled doesn't work that well on All though. It does mean I need to subscribe to things first, but I generally just subscribe to everything I'm interested in. I also browse All sorted by Top 6h regularly, to see what else is happening. Pretty good combo.

  • Fair point. I'm not American, and haven't delved deeply into it. They do seem to have been implicated in ousting a few progressive candidates in the past, but yeah, I may be misunderstanding.

  • I meant I'll believe it when I see them putting forward meaningfully progressive candidates in polls.

  • I'll believe it when I see it in action

  • I skimmed the article, but it didn't seem like he said anything of any real substance?

  • Sounds like that shit with dodgy smoking detection in a hotel from last week..

  • This is what happens when you apply maths without regard to meaning. Perfect example of the adage "Intelligence is knowing that a tomato is a fruit, wisdom is knowing not to put tomatoes in a fruit salad."

Hofstadter and Emanuel's Surfaces and Essences explores the idea of categorisation in a more serious way.
