Preach all you want. In a practical sense, X works for me and Wayland does not. No amount of yelling about security exploits that have not once been exploited in the wild even by the most resource rich state actors will change the fact that I can not maintain my daily productivity with Wayland, and I'm not going to accept being LESS productive to satisfy anyone's personal development crusade. That's the antithesis of how software, especially FOSS software, is supposed to work. Either Wayland will give me every single feature I need, or I will sit here with my old but functioning X installations until the day I die.
The standard workaround seems to be "scream at the developer to rewrite their features around Wayland's limitations and stop bothering the Wayland developers asking for feature parity". You know... The same way Android handles updates.
As someone not even REMOTELY skilled with building things with my hands, boy, I miss the days when you could just BUY neat stuff like this off the shelf instead of having every piece of consumer electronics be a noisy, branded, attention grabbing wiretap/distraction machine scheduled for obsolescence before the first unit ships.
Wouldn't work without also instituting rent control. The moment landlords get wind that people are getting money from a UBI the rents will double. So many parts of our system are so beyond broken that it's like playing whack-a-mole with all of the worst elements in society.

Result: Horrible thing is done. No consequences for having done said horrible thing. Lawyers get paid. Courts give themselves pat on back. Democracy manifest!
That calculation only matters if opinion still carries weight, which it doesn't. Trump controls all the levers of power, with only Congress having any POTENTIAL to countermand him, and by the time the midterms come around, the institution will likely be so neutered and weakened in the face of unchallenged executive power that it won't matter.
I'm NOT saying give up or trying to be defeatist, but there is no room to feel like things are "turning around" until he is well and truly GONE. Until then it's all just noise.
They're in no rush. Every day the shutdown goes on, Trump and cronies can get rid of employees they couldn't get the courts to let them fire, and that's not counting the ones who quit because they can't afford to be without income.
Meanwhile, Trump can executive order anything he considers critical to be essential and therefore funded anyway, and none of the machinery of fascism misses a beat. There are no jobs reports to alarm people that employment is collapsing, and the stock market keeps climbing.
Meanwhile, Congressional republicans cry crocodile tears. "Oh, no! Please don't play hardball with us!"
