Most people don't know that I left the Marine Corps an expert rifleman and sharpshooter with a pistol. I really miss hitting the range. It's kind of therapeutic for me.
I would like to think that it's as simple as acceptance, but they're so young, they didn't have a name for what they were feeling. They'll have to learn about sex, gender, and attraction from us. I also have to watch out for machismo baggage, social issues at school, and signs of distress. Part of the anxiousness is also not having support systems for this; we have no one to turn to in our family.
But certainly, acceptance is the primary, paramount focus.
I wish I could more, but I donate frequently. If I can't give my time, I'll give my money (to political campaigns, NPOs, etc.).
I used to volunteer in uni as part of the classes. I taught children creative writing, mostly. It was very fulfilling seeing children of all ages develop their own voices.
