  • Probably because we don't all have the energy to respond to every single inappropriate post. It's tiresome, and many of us are busy.

    Also, lots of people see these posts by browsing their subscription feed, and don't always notice which community each one comes from, so an errant post is easily overlooked if they're also subscribed to a community where it would be appropriate.

    I do see some downvotes on an OpenAI post, though, so it hasn't gone unnoticed. Don't think you're being singled out. It's just that there are a lot of these lately, and the issue hasn't been resolved yet, as you can see from the post I linked above.

  • IMHO, this community should be about technology. Novel inventions. Interesting or creative applications. Discoveries. Dangers, advances, impacts, experiments, tutorials, etc.

    Instead, it's overrun with stock market and business news having no more to do with technology than CEOs of wood pulp factories have to do with literature.

    I wish Rule 2 was phrased in a way that clearly excludes the latter, and enforced.

    I think GP has one or two good points about shortcomings of the existing distributed platforms, but I also think these things can be addressed. For example, a centralized system's single namespace for usernames brings advantages for both identity and usability. This would be harder for a distributed system to implement, of course, but it's not impossible.

    Can you summarize the reasoning there, for those of us who are mildly curious what you're talking about but don't have time to spend on a podcast?

    By "fully understand", does he mean knowing exactly how data are being laid out in memory, or when it is reclaimed? Knowing exactly what CPU instructions are being executed, registers used, and stack frames created behind the abstractions? Something else?

    since it is a dynamically typed language.

    What does Python's type system have to do with it? Python doesn't quietly convert objects of one type to another behind your back, like some other languages do.

    What concerns me is your condescending tone.
