  • Plex was bought out by venture capital and has been enshittifing for years. "Free" media stream sources added riddled with ads that you have to opt out of, opt out "everyone can see what everyone is watching" features, nebulous "we need to upload hashes of your media to skip credits" privacy issues, abandoning apps for various platforms like kodi, on and on.

I have a lifetime pass, but no longer consider plex a viable platform. The issues are not baseless, but rather based on what plex has decided to do to make money.

Meanwhile, jellyfin is FOSS with no profit motive, no privacy issues, skips intros and credits with no issue, pulls subtitles down and indexes media flawlessly, and has native kodi clients with Database sync support so a show paused in one room can be resumed at the same point in another room.

Hard to beat "slick, private and free."

  • The addons are great too. The intro/outro skip is slick and nearly flawless, background subtitle download is seamless, on and on.

  • She does love to ghost ride that whip.

  • Lettuce is a topping. It goes on top.

  • "Corporations are people, my friend."

No, it applies to "anyone," its just that corporations can drag lawsuits on for years, so they get to make sweet heart deals for their crimes that the test of us dont.

  • This is the best description of quantum computing ive ever read.

  • Keeping your hair out of water when you have feet and feet of it to maintain isn't uptight, it's just efficient.

  • Check out propublica. They partner with a lot of local journalists to tease out deeper stories, often in topics that aren't getting much press. They would absolutely appreciate a donation.

  • These "family funtime" youtubers are doing a job. Its there "9 to 5" like everyone else. A lot of it is just as tedious or worse than what other people do for money. I sure hope the son has a trust set up, because hes a child actor.

You think Mr. Beast is just "hanging with the boys" too? No, he's got a whole company, formulaic scripts, re-takes, marketing plans, exploitive policies that take advantage of people like every other company, on and on and on.

These people are working. They are not there selflessly to feed your parasocial needs. The bad ones will gladly pretend they are, but its work all the same.

The streamers/vlogers that are good and honest about it can still be lots fun to watch and occasionally interact with, but the people that make it big either got in very early, got very lucky or are extraordinarily entertainers in their own right.

  • The "Costco guys" arent a good example of a family just having wholesome fun. It may have started that way, but it is very much a business now.

There are behind the scenes videos from collabs/etc that show its shot just like any other web show/content. Scripts, Multiple takes, embedded ads, etc.

  • Can't say I agree about the hair or the mess. These are two different characters interacting with each other.

It looks like Kirks holding his hands over his hair in the 1st frame, but you can see the same "crown" baldness he shows in the 2nd, which is consistent with the character from the show.

The 3rd cell is an entirely different character, a hybrid of Kirks boss from the cracker factory that fired him and Dr. Manhattan from Watchemen, who killed rorschach. The comic is blending these two scenes together.

  • Dan is the best. One of the great old school YouTuber essayists. He really leans into a topic and interrogates it from every direction.

Hes got great videos on the metaverse, crypto scams and hilariously, the complexity of making cooking videos.

  • Based on the total lack of description, I thought this was an emulator for the music instrument at first.

That would have been something to see.

  • It doesnt. Its just shadow as an homage/tracing of the original comic, where rorschach has a black "smudge" on his head from taking off his black faced mask.

  • Incentivizing dividend payments are the same problem. They will want to make them bigger every quarter.

Its just line goes up in a different form.

  • The humans are using ai to pick the targets they kill anyway. They theoretically are supposed to parse out the bad targets, but we know from examples listed in the above, that for genocidal states like Israel, that review is intentionally ignored or minimized.
