I found this to be true in almost anyplace I have traveled. Try to learn a few common words and be polite. If the locals know English they will switch to that because it makes things faster.
The only exception I can think of is Puerto Rico outside of the tourist zones. They acted like jaded New Yorkers when I couldn't speak fluent Spanish.
Went to get the COVID/Flu shots last year at CVS last year only to be told my insurance would not cover the shots at the pharmacy. Asked me doctor a little bit later and he told me to go to Walgreens, another pharmacy.
I'm going to give this a few weeks for the insurance to catch up and contact them to find exactly where I can go.
Living in a large metro area I can throw nearly anything in the free section of Craigslist and someone will grab it. Old incandescent light bulbs, exterior door locks with matching keys, and a shower head i didn't like.
If it is metal and no one wants it I can take to a recycling place.
