Mereo is a sociologist who is also a nerd. He believes in open-source software.

I switched from: https://lemmy.ca/u/Mereo

  • I believe the problem is that people feel entitled to a job with a six-figure salary just because they paid for an expensive college education. College has this air of excellence.

But then, reality sets in. Knowledge is nice, of course, but practical experience is key. You need to know how to act in the real world.

  • Have you actually watched the video? It wasn't exactly smooth sailing. It wasn't entirely positive.

  • Piefed/Lemmy/Fediverse: freedom from capitalist tyranny. True organic, human communities.

Reddit is cyberpunk. It's a world governed by a corporation that acts as its government and only cares about its shareholders, not its citizens.

  • I don't know why you're being downvoted but that's a legitimate reason. Unfortunately, Microsoft Office has a total monopoly of the office market so incompatibilities are bound to happen with alternative Office software.

  • Onlyoffice is not sufficient for you?

  • I'm running Manjaro since 2022 and it has been running smoothly. I guess I'm foolish...

  • Why is this upvoted? It an ad for a company.

  • There could be multiple factors. For example, I have a Nextcloud instance that is fully managed by Hetzner, and I didn't bother to find out what database it uses...

  • OnlyFans' purpose is to make money from your actions. The Fediverse is the antithesis of that. It's run by donations, not corporations. Therefore, it will not exist.

  • The United Nations no longer deserves to be hosted in the United States. As the country becomes more authoritarian, the country has lost that right. It's time to move it elsewhere.

  • The Fediverse is the way. In this Financialised capitalism, capitalist platforms will continue to be enshitified as they only tend to shareholders interests of continual growth. They do not care about humans.

We need to keep this momentum going.

  • The problem will be to convince your friends and family to use Signal, and that's really not obvious.

  • I've been building computers since 1999, and I've noticed that the industry is cyclical. I've purchased CPUs from both Intel and AMD. We need Intel to succeed, otherwise AMD will dominate the x86 processor market.
