  • I'm currently in an apartment so I don't have one, but when I did I let it all hang out. Let the bush breathe!

  • I teach kids, and a lesson I have with them is on "context".

The game of tag, is it good or bad?

Well, on the playground it is good, really fun actually!

But in music class or at the library? It's really bad.

The game didn't change, the context did. Same goes with parenting imo. In fact I'd go so far as to say that teaching your kids to be considerate of the spaces they are in is a good thing.

I grew up with my mom telling us to keep our hands behind our back when going into an antique store or to be polite at the dinner table, and I was always invited to dinners and nice places by my friends parents because they knew I'd behave.

  • Also didn't the Supreme Court just rule that you can't charge the president for crimes made in their official capacity? He can just say it was in his official capacity to ignore the orders so tough titties.

  • Where's Rachel!?

  • Right, I think I let this thread drifted into what someone should do generally. I'm trying to figure out what I can do. The thing is, I can't own a gun because I've been in a mental ward. I've never fought anyone and at a deep level I don't think I can actively kill anyone. Someone with the means and mentality should absolutely do that.

I'm looking more to see how I can use the tools I have to make a difference.

  • You're right, this time may be different. It's stopping a full on war with our family, so that may bring bigger and more explosive protests that could tip the scales.

Maybe I've been just expecting the worst outcome of any event now.

  • I'm not ruling out violence, I'm just ruling out ineffective violence. There are other avenues where violence may be more effective.

  • I guess the thing that stinks is I'm in a Blue™️ state and in one of the most uncooperative cities to the Trump administration.

That said while it feels like all the districts I'm in are further anti Trump to most, there are many shades of Blue™️ who may need pushing, and many kinds of bills to be pushed.

So yeah everyone listen to Zak

  • It's not so much the violence, but the fact that it was for nothing. We've lost everything, and trying the same thing over and over just won't cut it. I assume there will be protests, but I don't think that's going to be enough, and may not have the ROI we need.

  • Finally saw a VW Buzz on the streets- I fell in love instantly. Not sure of the specs but I think she's mighty pretty and it makes me want to load up my band and do a cross country trip with a fun montage sequence.

  • Honestly I wanna do an expedition to the North Pole and see the sun do weird shit. Then treck to the South Pole so I can see the sun do weird shit but backwards. Like I know that sun is a weird freak when it doesn't think you're looking, that's why it does it at the poles. Then along the way from North to south I'll tell people how weird the sun is, and they'll have to believe me because I've been there, and they'll have to say "damn the sun is weird". Sun's going to be so embarrassed when everyone finds out how weird it is.

That or like go to Cancun or something. Anywhere that I can keep track of the sun that twisted freak you aren't fooling me.

  • Love the free Luigi sentiment but let's be frank the best way to honor him is to take down another Oligarch.

  • The country of "Disabled Retro Computer Nerd Land" sounds rad as hell, (the DRCN for short)

  • I'm on board except for the food variety, but I live in Chicago which attracts an amazing foodie scene. In bumbfuck Iowa you're probably more likely to have trouble getting some good Thai food.

  • Lol fair

  • You mean Russian Oligarch and President of The United States Donald Trump works with Putin? I never./s

  • I mean if you take the internet as a monolith, you'll find contradictions every where. Some people will hate A because of B, some people will hate A because of C, but either way A is getting hate for both B and C.

So either there are millions of people online with different opinions but the crowd looks the same, or there is one very, very busy troll who is running all the accounts.

help I'm so tired they won't give me a break to pee

  • Before this year, I was absolutely anti-gun. I'm a teacher, and it chills me that every time I enter a classroom I think "how the hell am I going to get these kids out of here if shit goes down". That's how I start my Monday's.

Owning a gun at home is statistically more dangerous to you or someone you love than to an intruder.

Most school shooters are taken down by unarmed teachers who work together.

But we aren't facing intruders or school shooters. We are facing the proud boys, Jan6ers, and now the federal government. I normally don't believe in violence and weapons either, but the context has changed and now we cannot rely on promises of public officials to keep us safe. We cannot rely on the police to keep us safe (as if we could before). We cannot rely on any market force to keep us safe.

Only we can keep us safe. This shit is getting real, and for those of us who are most likely staring down the barrel of a fascists gun, we can't just let that happen.

I hate that this is the reality.

I should never have to consider these things.

But in America, every conservative and their mom is carrying, and we in the cities have been complacent. Obviously you are not from America. You don't understand the sheer amount of guns here. Sadly it's creating a feedback loop and to sit unarmed is to be a sitting duck in a civil war/ genocide situation.

The time for the idealism of pacifism is done. If you are neutral you are on the side of the oppressor.
