  • The meme is specifically about cities, so when you said "thinly populated," that should have been about thinly populated areas of cities.

    If you're actually talking about rural areas and not cities, then you'd want to start with buses. Speaking of living in places with good public transit, I used to live in Japan, and I was surprised by how much buses get used in rural areas. They can get pretty full.

  • Trump is so old and unhealthy that it wouldn't be surprising if he just keeled over and died of natural causes at any point.

    It's pretty obvious that Trump believes that he's going to live for a long time and that he'll remain in control as president or whatever for all of that time. You don't build a ballroom if you think you'll be out in three years.

    Vance is like a vulture, circling around waiting for Trump to die so he can swoop in. His best case scenario is that Trump becomes a dictator and he succeeds him. So, Vance will say and do anything right now.

  • This is Section 3 of the 14th Amendment:

    No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

    It doesn't require that he be convicted of anything related to an insurrection, only that he had engaged in one, which automatically gives him a disability against holding any office. Since Trump incited the insurrection, and refused to call for the National Guard to protect the houses of Congress, I think it would be a huge stretch to say that he didn't engage in the insurrection.

    Another part of the Amendment gives Congress the power to enforce the Amendment, and that is something that Congress chose not to do. That's why Trump hasn't been stopped from being president.

    But choosing not to enforce a law doesn't mean that it is legal to break the law.

    According to articles 227 and 229 of the Constitution of Venezuela, adopted in 1999, the following requirements must be met in order to become President of Venezuela:

    • Being a Venezuelan citizen from birth and possessing no other nationality.
    • Being at least 30 years old at the time of the election.
    • Not being a subject to any conviction by final judgment.
    • Not being a Minister, governor, mayor, or the vice president of the Republic from the day the candidacy is announced to the day of the election.

    Donald Trump doesn't meet the constitutional requirements to be President of Venezuela.

    He also doesn't meet the constitutional requirements to be President of the United States, though, so nothing new here.

And the number of times that a trans person has actually caused a tangible problem for other people in a way that is related to their being trans is even more rare. Not that it doesn't happen, but it might as well be a unicorn.

    I think part of the reason he's escalating international violence is because he wants a chance to deploy nuclear weapons.

  • People don't seem to understand that complicated things don't just get invented out of nowhere. They almost always are the result of many steps along the way, each of which was useful in its own right.

    And that's why it's common that multiple people invent the same thing at the same time. Like the theory of evolution, or the telephone. These things may be complicated, but all of the building blocks were created over a long time, and suddenly, their invention or discovery becomes inevitable.

    Not to say that it never happens that people make large leaps, but it's rare.
