    Proxmox is open source. They use a customized Linux kernel (based on Ubuntu's newer kernel) to add support for other features that are useful in datacenter environments, like ZFS and such.

    The only thing they paywall is access to their enterprise production-ready repositories. But they still offer free access to their non-production repo.

  • There is a better way. Instead of considering these bills, the Senate Commerce Committee should be focusing on a national consumer privacy bill that would protect ALL internet users, or on banning behavioral advertising that tracks us across the web—again, for users of all ages.

    But the bills being considered this week move in the other direction—more information being collected, more surveillance, and less privacy for internet users of all ages.

    Acting like more surveillance isn't the entire point. They always use the "think of the children" excuse with these kinds of censorship bills.

    If they actually cared at all, these bills would be getting laughed out of the writer's room.

  • I have an HP Proliant G2 tower server case from the early 2000s. Its got 9 drive bays (if you include the floppy drive bay).

    Hilariously, it's ATX compatible, so I stuffed it with an older Asus motherboard (7th gen Intel + i7-7700T, w/NVME slot), 16GB DDR4 RAM, ~650W ATX PSU, and an LSI SAS card. Now I just need to migrate everything over to it from my older Mac Mini that's currently serving as the NAS...
