Long term computer programmer, making my own library. American based. Far left politically. Politics centered around promoting use of paper ballots. Follows news about environmental collapse, political corruption in my country, human rights, science and tech.

  • When I worked with customers I found having a slightly unpleasant look, while working hard, propelled me into stock. They had to be very desperate to use me at the front.

My secret power was sucking up to management though. A combination of unfriendliness to some and subservience to others is hard to do for many

  • The Enola Gay is still mildly radioactive, so I can’t help but think “Hot gays in your area ready to bang”

  • Not yet another protocol invading me brain!?? For all I know the different pattern of signal does things to my delicate nets.

I already had to contend with the fridge and garage door

  • It’s early days; very easy to assume things will remain mostly the same but with higher prices, and supply issues. Maybe the odd disease?

I don’t think many people understand how the USA works, and keeps itself together, I don’t. Obviously there is inertia that going to keep things more or less stable.

But if a system is stressed and then something else happens, totally out of left field, history is just filled to the brim of unlucky coincidences affecting large swathes of peoples

  • I turned it off after spending a lot of key presses and mouse movement to dismiss random suggestions. But, I found out that some features that I need, like syntax highlighting and navigation in the document, will have bugs if I turn AI all the way off. So eventually I checked do not auto complete ( at all) unless told to do so.

I think the older versions definitely work better in some ways

  • One of the reasons I hate to get on social media is pictures of people flaunting their wealth.

  • The bad part is four things:

    • the op either deliberately or legitimately did not understand what was being said
    • the vast majority of the comments just read what the op wrote and not what was said
    • having this many comments out of whack with this many upvotes gives ammunition to the bigots
    • this is a tech forum ??
  • Ok:

    • list of donors that are not all left
    • parent organizations that get money from above
    • mozilla gets money from parents

Op latches onto one donor; pulls some other stuff out , and the crowd goes wild

  • The original op took some things out of context, Ford, last I checked, was not a bastion of the left. He names big donors.

Then he describes how that money trickles down; and the last I checked the not so polite description is more accurate than not.

I don’t mind people bashing bad guys here; and I’m sure this fellow has spent years raiding your hackles. But some people like me, it’s just embarrassing to read

  • Oh dear, here I go.

    Do you have reading skills?

  • I understood what he said. Strip out some rude terms and it sounds accurate. The comments here sound like someone shouted “squirrel” to a pack of rabid dogs.

I also lack common sense and am posting this comment. In my feeble defense I really don’t know the guy, and suspect he likes baiting others

  • A good team can make any of these strategies work. A bad team will make a mockery out of them all. Most teams are neither good or bad, and stumble forward, or backwards, doing the motions

  • However true, nature abhors a vacuum, so there will be actual journalism coming from unlikely sources: and not just tech.

  • Oh people, they already did. We just don’t know yet

  • I suspect that has more to do about how nerfed the two other papers are, than the wsj finding this a bridge too far

  • I guess some system support people may have been fired recently

  • Not working for me now ( cannot find host name); their dns server is acting up; probably the instance that runs on is having issues or is under attack

  • Not that poster, but it’s really easy to be an ass in these discussions because it’s normally filled with liberal middle class Americans who have a unique set of blinders and hopes that can get frustrating .

And I say this as a middle class American more deluded than most

  • They are trying to be old Reddit? I don’t think there is the demand.

Too many competing services, they don’t have anything that distinguishes themselves, and also took a reputation hit. And many super users there left over mismanagement.

Too many hurdles if good management, and their management sucks

Edit: the only thing that gives them value is their old pages; a makeover would at minimum, hamper that I think
