  • There's a push to use it in my office. Specifically to hopefully reduce the number of people we need to review cases and code them appropriately.

    Ooooh they said, Ai can totally do that!

    Then in the most recent meeting, it changed to "Ai will give the clerk a summary and recommendation!" So we aren't reducing the number of clerks, and they'll just follow whatever the Ai says rather than checking the cases themselves. Just another thing to train them on and have go wrong.

    In the interest of pleasing my bosses, the research is continuing, but I have little hope it's going to be helpful. I talked them out of giving the text to the clerk, but instead save the recommendation and see how it matches up to the clerk. Then it's at least a fair test.

  • Mine decided to randomly start rebooting about a year ago. :( Tried everything I could think of to get it to work normally, but nothing helped. I couldn't rely on it, so I had to replace it. Like you, I hadn't planned to replace it any time soon.

  • I keep water by my bed at night. I usually don't drink any, but occasionally I've woken up and drank the whole thing without stopping, and other times I'll have a few sips.

    It's worth it to not have to trudge to the kitchen in the middle of the night. I've had to do that - either because I forgot my water or ran out and was still thirsty - and it's not fun.

    Our house is really dry, in winter especially. And I exercise in the evenings sometimes and am still rehydrating from that.

  • As a somewhat regular visitor to the Kennedy Center, since my wife is a huge theater nerd, I'll just add that it feels open to all. We dress up for the shows we see, but I also see people in jeans and t-shirts, and no one cares. It's about the performance.

    We just saw Shmigadoon there a few weeks ago, and we went to a John Oliver show back in December. I've seen numerous other shows there, like Wicked, Book of Mormon, Shear Madness, Ain't Too Proud (twice!), Million Dollar Quartet, Spamalot, and Phantom of the Opera... And those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head. And my wife and a friend of hers had season tickets, so they've seen a ton more shows.

    We're really saddened by this development. I can only hope the Center survives. It's a cultural institution.

    The only good news is that DC and Baltimore have a bunch of other excellent theaters, like Ford's, the Hippodrome, National, etc.

  • We have three cats, all adopted separately.

    We started with one, then when he was older, we adopted a kitten. The two never really got along, but the older cat passed away a few months later - had we known how sick he was, we probably would have waited on the kitten. (He seemed fine, but we later realized that cancer had already started.)

    We adopted another cat pretty quickly after the older one passed, because we didn't want the kitten to get used to being alone. A few years later we adopted a third cat, hoping the second two would get along and play with each other.

    The "kitten" passed away several years later and we adopted another kitten who is still with us.

    Our cats have never been best friends, they don't cuddle together or anything like that. It's more of a tolerate situation. They do get irritated with each other from time to time, but it seems pretty even as to who is instigating it.

    They've never drawn blood or even had a major fight. They just kind of wrestle or chase each other, and sometimes I wonder if they are just playing.

    I do think that a cat that is used to being alone is usually going to have a tougher time with a new cat.

    (We' re taking one of the older cats to the vet today. I recently realized he's lost almost 2 lbs since last summer, and he's being very active for an 11+ year old cat, so we're wondering about his thyroid. The other old cat needs an asthma inhaler and steroid every night for his conditions. Like the vet said, as they get older, they start collecting health issues.)

    I actually kind of feel bad for him, too. He's in a difficult situation no matter what he thinks.
