  • Yes, I trained myself only to use opposite hand shift combinations. You can do this with a programmable keyboard, autohotkey, or karabiner.

So Left Shift+a doesn't do anything, only Right Shift+a will output A

It was a exercise in getting better typing hygiene.

  • Sure! Thats a great idea, I moderate communities that are not lined up with traditional advice. I welcome constructive ackshually conversations.

Most people don't think it's legit, but that is why we read the research papers that come out. Outcomes should be the goal, not sustaining dogma.

  • About 72 hours, but there may have been some micronaps I don't remember. I often go 48 hours without sleep when I was on duty.

  • I also love set

  • I think the major problem with plant-based proteins is they are coupled with carbohydrates in abundance. To hit your protein goals you typically get a large amount of sugar, which it causes a large amount of insulin, leading to the hormonal problems I indicated above.

So to recap, you're doing a vegetarian diet, you have great success with it, but you're undermuscled. You want advice on which foods to help you build up your muscles? Your lifestyle is very active, and you get lots of resistance exercise at your job.

Your already doing the most important thing to stimulate muscle growth, you say your getting enough protein, so I think the next place to look is at your hormone levels.

Verify the diaas score of your major protein source, make sure it's a complete protein. https://www.diaas-calculator.com/

Down thread you say you can eat eggs? Eat more eggs by themselves, i.e. not within 4 hours of other food. Each egg is 6g of bio complete protein. Mixing eggs and plant based foods will reduce the absorption of the egg itself.

  • I've seen people have good success not trying to eat more, but eating a carnivore or very low carb diet and adding in resistance exercise. The body will naturally hunger for the proteins to build more muscle as long as the muscles get challenged regularly

Things to stimulate muscle growth (anything where your muscles feel a little sore at the end)

    • physical activity
      • walking
      • weight training
      • swimming

Hormones can have a massive impact on your body composition, if you have a doctor get your hormonal panel done. Eating low carb food will help your body's hormones get back into balance. High carb/sugar filled food messes with the super hormone insulin and that can keep you off balance.

Dont eat high sugar foods just to pack on fat, you want to build your natural muscle for a healthy lifestyle. If you must stay plant based you could explore plant based keto https://www.dietdoctor.com/low-carb/keto/vegetarian

Make sure you map out your food intake, at least once, in a micronutrient tool like cronometer and ensure your hitting all the targets

If you're young, don't have any other medical issues, are undermuscled, and have low energy - it sounds like a hormonal issue. Probably it can be resolved with a better diet.

  • The attention economy largely works by finding problems, outrage, rage bait that can grab and hold your attention.

If you spend lots of time online your view of the world gets skewed by the attention machine.

Life is pretty good, people are nice, food is great. The community around you keeps on keeping on.

  • Besides insulting me your response didn't speak to my points or provide any data for me to discuss. I will refrain from insulting you, as that doesn't improve Lemmy.

  • Now... Now... Wait until they have to debug it

  • https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1707322114 Nutritional and greenhouse gas impacts of removing animals from US agriculture

only reduced total US GHG by 2.6 percentage units.

This assessment suggests that removing animals from US agriculture would reduce agricultural GHG emissions, but would also create a food supply incapable of supporting the US population’s nutritional requirements.

Interestingly on this model, calories and carbohydrates would increase but there would be more nutritional gaps.

http://dx.doi.org/10.1038/s43247-023-00945-9 Levelling foods for priority micronutrient value can provide more meaningful environmental footprint comparisons

The oil companies have thrown cows out as a whataboutism excuse, its true.

Ruminants have exist before humans, they are not hurting the environment, they are the environment. Sustainable regenerative ruminant based agriculture is key to maximizing the output of the land.

  • When interviewing people I do ask if they play Factorio, and if yes, I ask about their thoughts on various design constraints and strategies they explored.

  • That's really great! I look forward to it

  • I have a UPS designed to run long enough to shutdown my server gracefully. I can manually turn it back on if the outage is extended.

If I was designing a critical service the ups would have enough runtime to switch over to some other power system (solar batteries, generator, second circuit, etc)

  • Currently banned users cannot vote in the community

My main issue is if you ban somebody from a community, it goes into the mod log, kind of like that person's permanent record. It's harsh to ban somebody for just voting negativity

  • Why even have a phone number if it is useless?

    • forgotten glasses
    • arranging a special event
    • deliveries and business coordination
    • employees calling out
    • etc
  • As somebody who moderates health and diet communities, yes these community tools are absolutely required.

Especially with respect to voting, there needs to be an

    • option for a community to not go to the all feed if requested
    • option to only allow subscribers to vote
    • ability that doesn't require a ban, but to unsubscribe someone from the community,
    • require people to have accounts of a certain age, or certain level of participation in Lemmy, or in a community, before being able to post or vote
    • remove a user from a community if they only have negative interaction with the community, like only down votes

Right now it's very difficult for small communities to get started unless they're loved by the current population of lemmy. Which means it's going to be difficult to bring other groups here.

I think it's critical for the growth of Lemmy that there are genuinely opt-in communities.

I think the philosophy needs to take into account that people want to make a community to talk about a subject, sometimes they want to talk about the subject in detail, and not just hold a general referendum on the popularity of the subject for the Lemmy as a whole.

Imagine star trek fans downvote everything from star wars, and vice versa. If someone comes along to make a community for snow speeder project building... They're going to have a bad time, all the Star trek fans will downvote and chill participation. We need these super small interest communities to grow to attract a broader population
