  • I learned about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sure_We_Can which is pretty interesting, I think Chicago would benefit from something like this. I think I'll create a web page for information about Chicago recycling to start, because yes I think education/transparency are the core key to getting the community to be more interested. If people don't care to take that effort then it will never happen.

  • The conclusion I've come to is location and space. Basically we need tight local hubs where people can drop off their recyclables at no cost. Then volunteers can sort these recyclables. You take the efforts of scrappers who prowl the alleys, and the efforts of people who want to recycle their materials and have a synergistic solution which costs nearly nothing if the government cooperates.

  • Interesting thanks for sharing. I think that Chicago could definitely have something like this. I think the root of the problem is lack of transparency. If people could see their recyclables being sorted and stored properly, they would be more interested. So I think the first step is setting up a transparent location, which the first step for that would be creating an organization?

  • That's a pretty beautiful region in the US yea. I wonder though, you'd probably want to be starting out in May though, if you started in December you'd be off to a bad start.

  • Yea I was thinking something like Lake Malawi honestly. But yea, in the case of being able to make contact with local people and be like "Hey I have absolutely nothing what can I do to help?" would probably be Zürich Switzerland, in which case I'd get deported back to the United States. 😂

  • Smart, I think a lot of people though still don't really know about this setup. I only learned about the benefits yesterday. It really pays to dig a bit deeper, especially for someone making a big decision to invest and install solar.

  • The biggest advantage is knowing the status of each panel, which is what makes it outweigh the additional initial cost. So yea, you could do them without telemetry, but then the question would be why not just get a string inverter at that point?

  • Indeed, but the problem is they don't provide shade. Vertical panels would work really well for sun loving plants though, not really for azolla unfortunately.

  • You need to learn about the growth rate of azolla to understand why it's superior, the cycle rate is insanely fast, it grows rapidly. Yes potassium and phosphorous would need to be introduced, it would be inexpensive.

  • The biggest benefit of having them vertical with the bathtub curve is horizontal space usage. You can grow plants that love strong sun in between the rows with much more space and they'll get mid day sun.
