  • I don't disagree, Johnson has been abusing the power to recess congress throughout his tenure.

I was just noting that he hasn't crossed the line of not swearing someone in. If he was preventing someone casting votes that should/would be a big deal.

  • I don't think that's actually been a real issue. While Johnson waited some 3-4 weeks to swear in Grijalva around the recent shutdown, congress was technically in recess the whole time. While it's kinda a jerk move, the moment he finally called back congress into session he did swear her in. So nothing was voted on or done inbetween her being eligible to be sworn in and when she was actually sworn in.

He did keep congress in recess for a long time to hold up passing the bill on the epstein file release (as Grijalva was a critical vote on that), but it didn't really change anything.

  • Unless something revolutionary happens, AI is not taking your job anytime soon. This is just another wave of the tech sector trying to beat down developers because they don't want to pay them.

If current AI systems could actually replace people, the the job market would have already collapsed. Right now in the US the job market sucks because of Trumps policies and wars.

  • The worst part (or at least a negative) is, I'm pretty sure Trump is bad for the military (just good for military contractors).

  • Im fairly certain this is true everywhere, but your local laws should supercede any TOS.

  • I was personally surprised myself, as generally Looney Tunes is considered superior to mickey mouse (in regards to older animation). However the country focused ones are worth giving a shot (especially Tokyo, Paris, and the Indian one [can't remember which city]). If you like those, then you might like the rest.

  • You're probably aware, but updating the model periodically is probably a good idea just because things do change overtime.

A model from two years ago was trained on data from at least two years ago. Meaning any technology, code, world event changes wouldn't be reflected in the model.

  • The way Infinity Train was treated by HBO is so sad.

Also, I feel like Symbiotic Titan is hard to recommend as it was canceled after one season leaving the story very unfinished.

  • Ooh, I was thinking of some more modern stuff, but that's a really good call-out. You can still see a lot of influences from that era today, not to mention that they're still enjoyed today.

The newer Mickey Mouse series felt like a modernized take on that era. If you haven't watched it I would give it a shot. The country-based episodes are all really well done and show how little dialouge is needed to tell interesting and compelling stories.

  • I'm always wary of the idea learning should be "practical". You never know when something will matter and there is an intrinsic value in learning for learnings sake.

Learning needs to be tangible, but I'm not sure it necessitates practicality.

  • Yeah, but I think if his cabinet turns on him that means something serious is going on. I think some senators and congress people would be inclined to vote against Trump if article 25 was used against him.

  • Also, how do you calculate what part of the price increase was due to the illegal tariffs vs the other tariffs vs the increased cost of operations due to tariffs.

Like it sucks we've all been screwed over, but there isn't really a path forward except fixing the country to prevent this happening again.

  • This is a country that voted for tariffs and Trump. This is what we get for allowing Trump to get elected. It might suck, but people need to face the consequences of their actions.

You can't retroactively decide tariffs should go to consumers. Businesses paid for them. Not refunding businesses would require breaking the law and the reason we're in this mess is because people (Trump) have been ignoring the rule of law.

Sure you could have the government write a check to everyone, but I'm not really in the mood for the government to spend even more money it doesn't have (just for a "refund")

  • Absolutely, tariffs absolutely increased prices. But it's not a set amount/percentage for all goods. Many businesses probably couldn't break down the exact "cost" of the tariffs as many prices (and tariffs) for even materials have been highly volatile.

On the otherhand business know exactly how much the government charged them. This being effectively a wealth transfer to businesses has been called out for a long time now.

  • I mean, that's literally impossible as the prices don't have a line item for tariff increases (as it's not directly passed on to consumers).

So what you end up with is basically a money transfer to all these business from working class Americans, just another way Trump has stolen from us.

  • I mean, the kids playing a switch. Consoles didn't really get updates until the 360/ps3 era and even then it wasn't a guarantee a game would get updates.

That's why there is such a big deal about release versions from back then. If a game was big enough it could get a updated physical release with some slight tweaks.

  • Yeah, ICE has still been operating without any hiccups this whole time due to extra funding from Trumps Big Bill. Forcing the republicans to cave on the two track approach means opening up TSA/etc. while still hamstringing ice and CBP. Maybe not as much as we'd want, but for Republicans to struggle so hard with the majority they have reinforces the unpopulairty of these agencies.

  • Basic ebook support and ereader (epub, pdf, cbr, cbz) + send to device (i.e. Kindle)

Biggest issue is the folder/book structure is very opinionated and isn't the easiest to work with.
