  • There are also too many contractors in non-defense agencies. It's really terrible because it both increases costs, slows things down (in my opinion), and means that there is little retention of skilled workers.

Oddly, the main way to save money and increase efficency is to expand the government workforce. Although, I do think there needs to be more effort on how we focus government work.

  • Yeah, I like the belief that in the US there isn't a tiering of medical services based on wealth. I mean that's probably pretty true everywhere, but especially in the US. I mean there's already medigap insurance.

  • I can't find anything about crewed flights. The best I found was this article.

This Wiki mentions planned manned flights for Ariane, but maybe they've done something recently?

  • Most of Europe is at war with the only European country who's gotten people into space. Russia certainly doesn't have the money or capacity to work on manned space operations right now and while the rest of Europe may be working on it, they might get there.

  • I think you mean for the west. China has its own rockets and space station and I imagine they aren't stopping just cause SpaceX decided to shoot itself in the foot.

  • The series had some great moments in it. Almost like a college version (more sophmoric) of It's Always Sunny.

The movie though was pretty bad. Which was a shame given how good the last episodes of the series were.

  • Haha, I was going to say "Let me introduce you to contracting". I've had to be everything from an agronomist to a supply chain manager to make things work.

  • The reporting on Trump and the current batch of Republicans is God awful.

I mean you have an entire political party touting the need for "fiscal responsibility" release a budget that increases the deficit?! How are they not being ridiculed for it?

  • Thanks for sharing your perspective. It sounds like it's the potential for harm/damage rather than the act itself that makes it an issue for you?

  • Thanks for sharing your perspective. It sounds like your main issue is the potential damage that could be caused and not the act itself?

  • I tend to lean more towards the problem being distribution rather than creation, so I'm curious about your opinion on this: Is there a difference between me imaging a sexual act with someone without their consent vs writing/drawing/deepfaking it?

  • It is "built-in" as the name is part of python. However, Python runs top to bottom, rather than having a special entrypoint. So name is just a utility you can use in your design.

While it can be a good practice to define a main entrypoint, that's more of a design decision and not hard rule. Many applications would not benefit from it because there is only one way to actually call the application to begin with.

Edit: Also not a dumb question. All programming languages have unique elements to them due to how they were envisioned and or developed over time (Pythons 30 years old)

  • The point of the name==main logic is that it checks if that is the file that was invoked (like running python filename.py). If you just put a main() in the global scope it will be called either when the file is invoked or loaded (which can cause unintended consequences).

  • Oh no, what did I block from my memory?

  • ..... Oh

  • Oh yeah, but I guess I was giving it a pass cause it goes both ways. Both the women and men have ridiculous designs.

Also, even though they definitely feel sexual, the actual dialogue doesn't focus on it too much (at least from what I can recall). It helps that the main character is really only interested in science.

Edit: It also has the issue that pretty much every major character is a guy.

  • Yeah, it's definitely hard. A couple I can think of:

    • Tri-Gun
    • Delicious in Dungeon
    • Dr. Stone
    • Cowboy Bebop
    • Fullmetal Alchemist (I think is mostly safe)
    • DBZ (Mostly safe, I think Dragonball has some questionable stuff)
    • Komi can't communicate (relationships seem mostly okay)
    • One punchman
    • Mon Pyscho
    • Steins Gate
    • Kinos Journey

The real issue is finding an anime that doesn't oversexualize anyone and still has lead female characters. If you're looking for early teen I think the US actually makes better shows:

    • Gravity Falls
    • Amphibia
    • Star vs Forces of evil
    • Infinity Train
    • Young Justice

There's more I could recommend, but for a teenager daughter those all probably have better plot, character development, and female leads than most of what I can think of for anime (although being a guy there are probably a number of anime I'm just not aware of).

  • Probably all of them as it was split 4-4.

  • This also happened to some extent with Reagan. While it wouldn't be another 5 years after his presidency when he was officially diagnosed with Alzheimers, it was speculated there were issues during his presidency.
