  • Between writing an actual piece of text replacement automation “the old way”, or replacing it all manually the even older way… the time sink and opportunity cost would still likely have favoured a bit of the older fashioned elbow grease. So many devs get caught up in trying to solve one off problems and go down a rabbit hole, but in the end the only way to do it once and do it right is to just do the work and move on to bigger problems.

  • The cost of doing business is to pay a poor to close a door and keep the wheels of progress spinning.

  • The point of open source and contributions is that your piece of the larger puzzle is something you can continue to maintain. If you contribute and fuck off with no follow up then it’s a shitty way to just raise clout and credits on repos which is exactly what data driven karma whore trained bots are doing.

I ditched Strava for WorkOutDoors and it allows exporting data into various formats. Will you support a non-Strava api import of workout data at some stage in the future?

  • For anyone anywhere that wants to know how to drive on the “right” side of the road, here’s a tip. You don’t even need to know your left from your right. Just keep the steering wheel of the car closest to the middle of the road but not over the centre line, that’s it. You can now drive in any country without worrying what is the right way or wrong way.

  • Ah gotcha

  • What? Protect them how? The stock market is Vegas and the house always wins.

  • Midnight Burger is a sci fi soap opera which is fun to listen to while doing things.

Car Talk is an old style radio show where people call in and talk about car troubles but even for non car enthusiasts it’s very relatable and entertaining as the hosts are great.

Secretly Incredibly Fascinating is akin to How Stuff Works and has a bunch of topics and two hosts that learn from each other on the topic.

  • Surely anything that could possibly warrant a tie that big could be solved with a better solution?

  • There is !nanowrimo2@feddit.online that was prompting people to journal so not exactly what you are after but the trackbear app that was used is handy for tracking progress and maybe there’s other communities similar for creative writing.

  • Depending on the state of sleep deprivation and flow state, even waking up to the previous nights code is an out of body experience of shock and awe. Either I am surprised at the level of complexity and elegance with the rabbit hole that I went down or it’s a fragmented mess of FIXME placeholders that don’t communicate the brilliant ideas and plans from past me.

  • It didn’t make sense then, and it doesn’t make sense now. Keyword searches with an understanding of search syntax was always king.
