I still use windows because of Visual Studio. I used to use Mac OSX because of XCode and I honestly don't understand people today who still use Windows or Mac for anything other than Development.
If there was an alternative to Visual Studio for Linux I wouldn't think twice.
You just described every authoritarian state that has existed since the beginning of humanity. Unfortunately, I must conclude that the United States is no longer a democratic country. I do not see how the citizens of the United States will free themselves from the clutches of the tyranny that will occur in the coming weeks/months.
Authoritarian states are created overnight, but disappear after a long agony. Corporations turn into clients of the dictator because that is the only way to survive, decent people will become mute passive supporters of the tyranny with the thought "I am not like

and I have nothing to fear".
Perhaps the only bright spot is that the dictator is old and has no chance of ruling for the next 10, 20, 30 years. Unless the system they are setting up is super efficient and will allow the formation of an Autocracy, a dynasty created by dictatorship. Knowing the efficiency of the American system, that is a real possibility and the next elections will be a farce.
I hope that some agency in the US will start organizing educational visits to North Korea, where this tradition of writing essays about the supreme leader has been practiced for decades and the people there have a vast amount of experience that they would selflessly pass on to the citizens of the former Land of the Free.
Why someone will be a passenger in self-driving vehicle? They know that they are a test subjects, part of a "Cartrial" (or whatever should be called)? Self-Driving is not reliable and not necessery. Too much money is invested in something that is "Low priority to have". There are prefectly fast and saf self-driving solutions like High-speed Trains.
Bill Maher is a cheap comedian and at his core he is an arrogant snob who has no clear idea of the essence of what he is talking about. He advocates for the abolition of woke culture (which I agree with him 100%), and has never once condemned the genocide that Netanyahu is committing because "it is not fashionable to condemn anything that comes from Israel". He always condemns and mocks Donald Trump (with great jokes) but when he was at dinner with him he "twisted his tail" and suddenly "the monster is actually a cartoon character, funny and harmless".
I used to look forward to his shows with pleasure, now I can't watch even 5 minutes. I guess you can't be good all the time.
