I didn't realize they were making desktops. I almost bought a laptop from them a few years ago but ended up finding an ASUS laptop that worked well with Linux and was significantly cheaper which fit my needs better for that. I'll check them out.

People were harassing me for trying to supporting the person in question. However, they were using information from my other posts to use hate speech to do it. Their arguments against my points had no real content beyond "I'm right and I'm mad you keep making points that question that rightness." Removing those hopefully will leave others with similar belligerent opinions from digging into my post history to harass and try to bring harm to me because of my gender in retaliation for debating their rightness.
Possibly, but it's going to have issues. Immich can run on 4GB if you disable machine learning features for image recognition and such. And Jellyfin can run on a minimal system with 4GB if you have a graphics card, but with integrated graphics likely to be in a sub-$300 system the recommend 8GB. And graphics cards are still expensive even after the crypto craze has settled because LLMs benefit but also because of the artificial memory shortages they've created. Running both might work if you set a lot of virtual memory and never have them operating at the same time so it's not swapping constantly. And that's not leaving room for the other stuff. I'd say you could squeak by with 16GB, but that's going to be most of the budget even for low-end, off brand sticks that are available right now.
Not much right now due to LLM training hogging all of the memory across the industry. Best bet is lightly used.
They were DMed to me, and was disagreeing with me on this subject and then using anti-trans slurs. I got a bunch all in a short period, so I'm guessing a single actor or anti-trans group using multiple accounts. But I decided it wasn't worth my emotional energy to keep the comments up and have others do the same. Sucks that some people can't have discussions without finding something they hate about you and using that to make themselves feel superior when they dont have any real argument to make other than "you're wrong".
Honestly, I abandoned my lemmy.world account last year when Serinus changed the moderation policy that the "narrative" that trans people are not real or are mentally ill or whatever to not be considered hate speech and thus not to be removed automatically, following the similar change at Facebook. I guess I should continue to steer clear of the server since it seems it has given bigots a feeling that they aren't the bad guy as I argued it would just like it did with Facebook, X, and the others. Sucks that we can't live in peace. And that's all I'll say on the matter as I dont have the energy to convince anyone that trans people do exist, it's widely accepted medical science from all unbiased medical organizations and it is definitely as much hate speech so say a trans person isn't their gender as it is to say a black person is a non-human primate.

Yeah I keep it isolated for now, but use it very little. I plan to expand to try to get off of some other platforms, so just looking if any other options exist, even if they lack features since I don't use a lot.

What's a good alternative? I'm not 100% sold on forgejo either due to some bugs and security issues I've run into as well, but I've found few self-hosted alternatives that are a good fit. I need very little beyond a git repo. But I like having the web UI for reviewing code and pull requests and basic issue tracking and need that to support OIDC, but otherwise I'm open. I want something relatively lightweight, fully FOSS, and telemetry and all other external communication can be disabled.
Definitely not needing something that high-end. It's just me and maybe one other person using it periodically for voice commands that needs to be realtime. The rest is background processed stuff like Immich image recognition and Jellyfin audio/video processing. Nothing fancy is needed. I mention motherboard because the system I'm thinking of using is currently running Plex which I'm in the process of replacing with Jellyfin on my Kubernetes cluster of minipcs and Raspberry pis that runs most of my stuff pretty well, but could benefit from dedicated LLM/ML. So, that machine will be freed up, but it's nearly a decade old and not up to the task as it is.
As for specific budget, I don't have specifics in mind. My Kubernetes cluster is super energy efficient since it's all small systems that only spin up when needed. So thinking about overall cost of ownership vs benefit. Having something too high end would just waste energy as well as the initial investment.

I have always used small, cheap devices for the servers and NAS storage. I actually had a NAS for a long time to backup my personal devices, too, even before self-hosting. The NAS uses cheaper, slower drives but larger anf more of them and in RAID configuration for redundancy because I've had too many drives die on me over the years. And I then use NFS to cache the data locally on the servers which benefit from faster drives which can then be much smaller because they are more expensive per GB.
What IPv6 Configuration Type are you using on the WAN interface? The Interfaces -> Overview page should also show it based on the /48 or whatever at the end of the IP and if you're using DHCPv6 then often you can request how many with the Prefix Delegation Size option, though it's not guaranteed they'll actually give you that large of a block or even pay any attention to that option.
Is it a subnet level address or only a single interface level address. Many ISPs, in the US at least, don't supply a block of addresses, just one. If you're only getting a single IP address or it's using 6rd (like my ISP) or similar really old, transitional technologies, then you won't be able to assign a unique GUA to your LAN (separate from the WAN address) and so you'll need additional routing configuration like NAT to properly route to locally defined IPv6 addresses.
Personally, I gave up on trying to get things to work with 6rd since NAT is way easier on IPv4 since it was never intended to be necessary on IPv6. But ISPs are just cheap, lazy, or actively trying to make self-hosting on residential plans more difficult in order to drive people to business plans and prevent businesses from using cheaper residential plans by keeping IP addresses dynamic and thus complicating DNS.

I hate that LLMs are called "AI", but they do have some uses if trained on the right data set (rather than pirating all the data of all of internet and calling making the LLM think it's valid data). I have been wanting to set one up for my Home Assistant voice control so that it can better understand my speech. Also, for better image component recognition for tagging in Immich.
I wish they would force the companies to release their training data sets considering they are getting a lot of it illegally (not that I'm a big copyright fan, but it's crappy that copyright applies to individuals and small businesses, but not to big rich people and corporate backed companies. And attribution, and copyleft policy if the creator wants it, is something I agree with strongly.) If we could get the data sets and pick and choose what portions we want to include and then train our own LLMs, it would be better. It's why scientific LLMs actually are useful. They are primarily only trained with peer reviewed scientific data not 4Chan and Reddit craziness or training it with SciFi and parody works as fact. No wonder it hallucinates.

If you teach a toddler that propaganda on 4chan or with SciFi, parodies, and hate speech as fact rather than giving it all context, they turn out to be the people who post thst nonsense. Yeah get that. I do it because my pangolin is segregated so that if that internet facing layer is penetrated, there's not much else they'll have access to. Similarly, if my WiFi is penetrated, there's just a few devices. And many of my services run on Kubernetes distributed and load balanced across a bunch of cheap devices, so it needs reverse proxying at the ingress anyway. And there are a few other reasons for keeping traffic off of the pangolin server or even the router when it's internal to internal, but still be able to use the single domain name for the service, especially with IPv6 not having static IP addresses quite the same way as IPv4, so not wanting to hard code IP addresses or even port assignments in services that back other services like the database server which originally was just running on the NAS, but switching it over to another system only required changing the internal reverse proxy, not every service that used it. I like abstraction like that.
Yeah, I have caddy and traefik in front of most of my home-based services, except for a few web UIs like the router's. Pangolin just receives incoming connections and routes them to the correct reverse proxy in the correct VLAN for that service.
I have VLANs to separate services that are more public facing from very private ones that only certain devices should be able to connect to directly. Basically, I have one VLAN for IoT devices that need to connect to the internet often but only certain things should access directly, one for very private things like my NAS, database server, 3D printer, etc, that rarely if ever need access to the internet, one for my personal devices (laptop, desktop, phone, tv) which are behind a pihole for ad blocking, and one guest VLAN for guests, but mostly for my work computer which really likes to snoop.
So just glancing at the site, are these basically laptop CPU and RAM parts just packaged in a desktop form-factor case and that's why they're soldered? Seems like they also don't have much expansion capability much like a laptop such as only having a single PCI-E x4 slot with a proprietary connection interface, so I couldn't later add a graphics card for example. Unless, I'm just missing something, and if so please let me know.
