  • Well, the article did go on to provide better stats once they changed out the panel and battery:

    Since then, the uptime has been 100% (March to September 2020), even though we have added a lot of content by making the website multilingual. This is due to the larger (brand new) battery but also to the better orientation of the smaller solar panel. The battery’s capacity will decline over time, so the higher storage capacity will make it last longer. If the uptime remains 100% through the winter 2020/2021, we will probably downgrade to a 20W solar panel.

  • Over a period of roughly one year (351 days, from 12 December 2018 to 28 November 2019) the server was up for 95.26% of the time. This means that we were offline for 399 hours (which corresponds to 16.64 days).

    Not bad at all really, at least for non-mission critical sites. I have solar and I really like it. Solar power on two barns, and a lot of my security cams run on solar. I'm not sure if it's the formatting of this site, or the grainy pictures, but it oddly reminds me of the Trojan Room coffee pot.

  • I have two server room dogs. An English pit, which is my seizure dog, and a Jack Russel. They shed, especially in the summer months, and the floor sweeper gets a daily work out, as well as keeping it out of equipment enclosures. It's not that I hate cats, they are nice as a pet in your house, just not mine. LOL

  • All I'm advocating here is a little common courtesy, you know? Rule 1 if we're going to talk about rules. Selfhosters are always talking about how we need more people to sever the umbilical cord of Big Data and get into selfhosting, then act like a bunch of elitist snobs. It really is the black eye in the self hosting community.

    Where did he say this? He said he didn't read the rules. Also, when I explained the rules (tho in error), where to find them, and decode them, instead of just piling on like everyone else, when I came back, OP had added the tag. That doesn't seem like he didn't 'care about the community rules'. OP doesn't seem to be fluent in English, and stated such. Yes, the rules are posted and are there for proper formatting of threads. So imagine yourself visiting a selfhosting site that's written in Mandarin. ffs!

    Are you noticing any stalling or stuttering when running apps or using multiple apps? If 'no' then I'd agree with the ones that are telling you it's fine. Dats how Linux do. I've always been told to let Linux handle that unless it's causing problems for you. And even then, after exhausting all other things that may cause this. Now whether that is sage advice, I couldn't comment to that, however and anecdotally, it's served me well.

  • OP, I get the impression that English isn't your native tongue, though you're doing a pretty good job of it. No worries, French isn't my native tongue either. There are specific rules to posting in this community even if you are promoting someone else's project/app. They are linked in the side bar. If English is not your native tongue, maybe copy them to Chat GPT and have it translate into your preferred language. The rules are pretty simple to go by.

    As far as the pushback against AI, I wouldn't worry too much about it. A lot here are very adamant about AI. I honestly don't care too much.
