  • Well they'd have to cut c-suite and shareholder's cut because everything else that could be squeezed out has already been squeezed out, so the c-suite and shareholder will convert their money into the political power it takes to just block out the competition.

  • The income stream would disappear, their operations would collapse and that would just be the end. There would not be another manufacturer that would flourish in the void left behind. Without the institutional know how and the existing structure, supply chain the current car manufacturing industry would never be able to restart if it ever stopped.

The social darwinism of the globalist free market is meant for crushing the spirit and bargaining power of individual workers, they are replaceable, disposable, interchangeable. General Motors and Ford aren't.

  • Yes grafana does seem like a good framework for building such a thing. But has anyone done it ? It is quite a lot to learn so I'm curious to see if someone has made one of these self-hosted meteo application already.

  • Ok, I had a look at windy, but it doesn't seem possible to self-host Their github repo has a lot of stuff, but no web frontend https://github.com/orgs/windycom/

As for meteo.pl, they seem to use rrdtool to generate the graph, but like windy, they graphs are static, no scrolling or putting cursor on the graph to get exact values. Also, meteo.pl doesn't seem to have any software repository ? It is just a private commercial website ? There doesn't seem to be something to self-host ?

  • Yes, that's starting to look like it. Does it let you zoom out to the whole year without a page load ?

Also, does it work without a local sensor ?

  • To be clear, I mean something with a user interface that combines multiple aspects of the weather and lets you change the date range by scrolling.

I have not found one of those.

  • Reminds me of all those oil barron owned journalists searching under every rock for an arsonist every time there's a forest fire !

  • Thanks that's very informative

Especially for different purposes and on different hardware

  • Thanks, although what I'm looking for is a file that will make a kde plasma desktop with chromium and libreoffice installed Something I can plop on a usb stick and hand to grandma so she can linux up her obsoleted win10 pc without me having to explain what a nixos is.

I understand she probably will not understand the nuance of a immutable filesystem based os but that's fine. I simply do not have the energy to tailor a file for each individual grandma that I have.

  • Thanks, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

  • Ah I thought it was all one file, and maybe that would just be like, commenting out the system section or something.

But I do mean, which apps are installed, what desktop environment, really the user interface, the end user experience that's what I was wondering.

So is there such a repository or not ? Is every nixos user making the configuration file from scratch in vim ?

I figured there should be a repository where most user just pick a ready made file and that's the end of that. Not really having to learn the syntax of that file and writing it down ?

  • Probably yes !

I meant the file that decides how everything works

I figured if you sent me that file from your system, I'd get your system exactly how you designed it.

I think it would be great to just load random ones of these from other people to see how they like their system.

And then I could pick and choose those aspects that I like while also trying many, radically different ways of doing things as fast as my system can reboot !

  • All firefox really needed to be once google took over everything, was to be a viable alternative and find a way to metabolize all this cash in a way that doesn't damage google's own cash machine or threaten it's actual dominance.

For google the pitance they give firefox is a very cheap insurance policy against against anti-trust legislation. Just like Intel with AMD, this shows how toothless the liberal anti-trust legislation are, even if they were really being enforced, they cannot handle a token 2nd player. It cannot handle controlled opposition if it's credible and believable. So an actual thriving ecosystem doesn't need to exist, we just get duopolies instead of monopolies but in practices we get ducked up the cloaca just the same.

  • I'm specifically aiming at the "a culture that..." bit.

That the same logic with different garbs. It doesn't become ok because it's a "culture wink wink".

It's the same weapon used the same way with a tiny lil' tweak to try dodge criticism.

This is transparent and should not be fooling anyone.

  • “comes from a culture that lies about everything”

What do you think he meant by that ?

How the logic of his statement works seems very plain to me, we've seen that a million times.

  • With nothing else but the blank walls and the cruel clock now students have nowhere else to turn to to pass the time but listening to teacher blab his time-filling spiel. If they're very lucky, the students might learn a single thing that matters before days end, but of course that remains exceedingly unlikely.

  • It's about creating the conditions for money later
