  • Operating systems are niche nerd stuff. Your average iPhone user doesn’t know what iOS is. Most Android users don’t know they’re Android users - “I have a Samsung” or, worse, “this is my iPhone” (it clearly is not).

The market for alternative mobile OSes is basically software developers and tech/privacy nerds. It’s not an enormous market and it’s full of customers that see through the usual profit-generating enshittification that plays well in the mass market. There’s not that many of us and we’re fickle bitches.

  • I would take Elon Musk’s estimate and slap a 0 on the end.

  • That shit would not fly at my local Costco. I stopped for the first time on a weekday morning and it was a bloodbath of efficient cart movement. I almost died because I was too slow grabbing a bag of sugar and putting it in my cart in a fluid motion.

Bless those people, though they scare me.

Now the motherfuckers that show up later in the day after they start handing out free samples, on the other hand…

  • My company was using token burn as an AI adoption metric, but they’ve started clawing that back in search of better metrics.

After a bunch of people all blew through $2000 of tokens over a weekend building “something”, leadership cooled their heels and is pivoting to trying to use AI more intelligently.

And yet we can still measure productivity by how fast it takes to get a feature deployed and we can measure customer satisfaction… I still don’t understand why that’s insufficient. If adding AI made the line go up, then it is a benefit. If line not go up, why buy AI?

Instead it seems like a lot of companies are just looking for new magic numbers to chase in order to justify their predetermined conclusions.

  • Hello fellow X-COM player.

  • I save space on backups by symlinking my data in a backup directory. It’s never failed!

  • Sadly, it still has to ship with a timer app.

  • But how many football fields is that?

  • “Hey can we get the team together for a few minutes?”

Who the fuck do you think you are, you little shit? NO!

  • Are they wearing helmets?

  • I think it’s fine. A 22 year old hanging out with 12 year olds is weird. A 42 year old hanging out with 32 year olds is nothing.

I guess there’s some cutoff point where it starts getting icky. Someone should write an equation.

  • The logic was “these companies ate the cost” and when confronted with the fact that prices went up and the costs had been passed on to consumers, the clarification they provided was “nuh uh”.

  • Maybe if the photo “matters” but generally no.

Bonus that iOS detects that and tells you to wipe your lens if you’re trying to take a photo with a filthy phone.

  • I did this too. Amazing how you still end up arriving at almost the same time as when you drove like a maniac hey?

  • Less dull: I dug up 4 potatoes from a random hanging basket. I never planted potatoes in there so that was a fun surprise.

    Mm. Still dull.

  • I was at a big work conference. Whole company got flown in. On the last night, they rented out a massive night club for a raging party. I said I had another thing to go to, and people thought I had some craaaaazy alternative party to go to.

I went to my hotel and read in bed for 5 hours. It was fucking glorious.
