  • OH SHIT THEY’RE DOING MATH IN THERE

  • It’s no coincidence he plays the trombone.

  • Fileflows can probably be configured to do this. I only use it to convert everything to HEVC but it’s a node based workflow and you could roll in renaming and tagging.

  • Workaholic is just a tight framing around priorities. Someone who focuses too much on work is ordering their priorities in a certain way. All the excuses in the word don’t change that.

Every time they spend their time on their job, it’s a decision to not spend that time on something or someone else.

Maybe that’s critical to their long term survival. Maybe it’s not. Maybe they are chasing success and will reach it. Or not. Maybe they’re doing that because their parents were like that and it’s learned behaviour.

But it doesn’t matter. People don’t really change that much in the long term. Don’t stick around because you think they will “improve”. This is who she is. If you’re ok with that, set your expectations appropriately. If not, make a hard decision sooner rather than later.

  • It’s the only way to be sure.

  • Scope it so that the project should be close to done when the honeymoon phase wears off.

If you’re deciding to restore a classic Corvette in your garage and buy an old wreck before you even know anything about cars, you’re going to fall off that cliff way too early.

Ambition is the thief of joy, or something.

  • Itemized invoice would be killer! There’d have to be an item called “pure profit”, shining some light on their greed.

  • I worked with a guy a bit older than me and once he told me “you know, I love my kids and would never regret them, but if I had life to live over, I don’t know I’d have them again”.

I have a three year old. He was right.

She just brought me pretend water I didn’t ask for from the water dispenser on the fridge. She used to bring me real water but I disabled it after my laptop was sitting in water one morning.

  • I was told this would take decades or centuries. Why the fuck is he speed running it?

  • I saw him when he was on tour with Jimmy Carr and got a bit of a ick vibe from a lot of his material. It felt like he was taking the edgier, sexist angle of his schtick and instead of using it as a platform to make deeper jabs at our society, he was leveraging it for manosphere talking points.

Very disappointing. More like a Bill Maher show than a clever comic.

  • Clean the area carefully (you want to remove existing dirt and skin oils without damaging the autograph any further).

Mask the area off with painters tape.

Spray with 3 thin coats of spray polyurethane from the hardware store.

Give it a couple days to completely cure before handling it.

  • I think the cool kids today buy commercial “displays” (used for things like advertising in retail areas). They don’t have smart functions. They don’t connect to the internet. There’s no tuner. You’d have to bring your own antenna, media player, HTPC, whatever to send it content, but it’s 100% under your control.

The other option is a computer display - there are pretty large ones that act the same (probably just a commercial display in a different box for a different market). The prices weren’t historically that high if you didn’t need absurdly high resolution and refresh rates (gamer stats - irrelevant for general tv watching).

I haven’t tracked any specific brands for years so can’t give a specific recommendation, but I’d suggest looking for second hand. If a store goes out of business their displays will be cheaper than anything you get directly from a distributor.

If that’s a dead end, you can still look at a bloated smart TV. Just don’t connect it to the internet, ever. Generally the same result as using a simple display, except the bundled remote will probably have a bunch of stupid buttons you’ll never use. My tv has a huge Netflix button and every time o accidentally press it I get a giant ad to buy Netflix 🙄

  • what’s missing?

An AI disclosure for your app per the community rules, Claude.

  • Before you get your next tattoo, just double check that it’s not more than “just a cool looking skull”.

  • I used to have a neighbour that would wash his driveway on a weekly basis. It was coated asphalt. It wasn’t “nice”. Nor was it ever dirty. Oh, but it had a giant ugly orange traffic cone at the end to deter people from pulling in and turning around.

I used to constantly fight with two different relatives because they insisted on putting all their yard trimmings into a paper bag before putting them in the giant rolling bin. That gets tipped into the truck on collection day. Why? “So the can doesn’t get dirty.” I don’t understand why a GARBAGE CAN that SITS OUTSIDE ALL THE TIME ever needs to be kept pristine ON THE INSIDE.

People like to create work for themselves that I will never understand. I’m certain I do the same thing and leave people shaking their heads.

  • I went to the first one and didn’t enjoy myself. Saw the assholes are now cops and most of the self-proclaimed cool kids were now shilling one MLM or another. Everyone still hung out in the same groups they did in high school. They held a moment of silence for the popular dickhead who got drunk and drowned in a river after high school.

  • My uncle once wrapped his car around a telephone pole because an orange fell off the seat and he was trying to pick it up.

I feel like there’s a clever fruit/apple/iphone joke in there somewhere but I can’t find it and I give up.

  • In general, you can sue if you can prove damages. A class action probably isn’t the right vessel - you haven’t lost money, but you have the perception that money would have gone to you.

Legally, I don’t think that holds much weight.

I feel like getting some media attention is a more effective angle, especially if you can gather enough detailed information and contact a journalist.
