The cat is out of the bag a far as any concern about interfering goes. Also, humans are the less advanced civilization here, and a lot of the time they're arming other humans.

  • I don't feel like the food I got in the cafeteria as a kid was slop, but there were definitely some dishes that did better when cooked en masse than others, and some that were more or less appealing. Like, pizza, ravioli, burgers, chicken sandwiches or nuggets, they all tended to be pretty consistent and good. The spaghetti tended toward being kind of weak and mushy because I imagine it's tricky to get a proper al dente when you're cooking for hundreds of people. Likewise, the baked chicken wasn't anything to write home about.

    Most of where they'd drop the ball was with texture or with things not being spiced as well as they could have been. But again, at scale I'm sure it's tricky.

    As others have said, though, the US is nowhere near as homogeneous as you'd assume if you only watch our media. A lot of the complaints about school food being inedible are also significantly overblown because it's something to complain about and bond over.

  • 100% agree. People are shitting on Hank because they have literally nothing going on. They've made a hobby out of being outraged, and as a result have nothing more meaningful to contribute.

    If they took the time to look into it, they'd realize the line they're using to claim that AI writes his scripts was actually something he himself simply said. Not only did he not outsource his writing to AI, he's honest enough that when people incorrectly accused him of this he disclosed that he does at times use it to aid his research. Not that anyone blathering about it values honesty enough to care.

  • This approach is honestly a non-starter. It lacks organic engagement, and most of the posts from people who do this have no comments or very few. It also tends to end up with one person flooding with a bunch of shit they didn't read. Personally, I usually block this as meaningless attention seeking, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

  • I used to watch it in the 90s when it was airing, and I've made a few attempts at a rewatch in recent years, but I've never gotten all the way through episode by episode. It feels too much like a cop show in space to keep my interest for more than a few episodes at a time, and I usually just decide I'd rather watch DS9.

    Indispensable for a 90s SciFi Channel playlist though. Grab a few originals, add some B movies and MST3K, throw in a few hundred 90s ads and set the whole thing on random. Beautiful.

    DS9 felt more like the narrative itself was more sympathetic to rebellion and antiauthoritarian sentiments. B5 seemed more focused on order and law. You have that in DS9 too with the likes of Odo and Worf, but you have a lot of counterbalance with much of the rest of the cast.

  • Babylon 5 was neat conceptually and I like the aliens, but the main cast and writing come off as very copaganda-forward in a way that DS9 managed to avoid.

  • Discovery was a very different format from the earlier series. If you're watching 90s Trek, you've got 20 some odd episodes per season and most of them are designed to be watched one at a time. That's a lot of time to fill in backstory details and meet different characters. Compare that to much shorter seasons with a more contemporary focus on a central plot and you just don't really have the run time to spare.

  • They're also the smartest, and are an excellent way to work toward wearing down visceral fear toward spiders. Their personalities and forward-facing eyes make it a lot easier to understand them. You can see what they're looking at, and their observant little movements make them come across as curious in a way that's absolutely adorable once you get used to the legs.

    I would strongly urge anyone who is fearful of spiders to have some interactions with jumping spiders. It can go a long way toward making you feel at peace with animals that are always around us and mean us no harm.
