  • slackware: ships libraries too old (python3.9, openssl1.1.1, ... - this is on the latest stable, released early 2022)

i hope they get a new release soon, as the kernel is going EoL soon as well (5.15)

  • maybe ships with chinese ca certs? not sure. i think i've seen ISOs for this chinese govt edition win10, you can probably get one from mydigitallife forums if you're curious

  • nah they're probably gonna use the linux version of WPS Office

  • X.Org Server 26.1 RC1 Prepares For First Feature Release In Five Years

    Jump
  • yay, finally we'll be able to have tearfree in modesetting driver without compiling git head!

  • nah, intel macs (non-T2; i never had a T2 model) tend to work fine with Linux

  • we did have those with BBSes for sure

  • save everything you like from the internet. nothing lasts including youtube videos

  • it says C, guess someone gotta hack that and make it load some cheat menu or smth

  • you gotta subscribe to a LOT of communities to get a somewhat active feed

  • you can use ublock lite if its ios 16 or newer. or adguard for older versions.

alternatively theres reynard browser which is a full gecko firefox port and also runs ublock origin

  • i use a browser/mail client called seamonkey and their official community is on usenet. other than that pretty much every community seems dead sadly. honestly lemmy is much easier to use for me.

  • playlists as pls files in one dir. albums in (mostly) random categories, mostly in genre/artist but sometimes the movie/show it's from etc. inside each dir i just keep the original filenames as i've acquired them.

i tried to use musicbrainz picard and beets for a short period but it just doesn't work for me because musics i have aren't popular worldwide and many have borked metadata

for listening on the go i encode them to opus and copy to my phone, play using foobar2000 or aimp

  • yeah that's true. tbh i don't think there's anyone attempting to copy that though (looks too Not Safe For Life)

  • styropyro, pretty interesting videos although i don't understand most of the science stuff he talks about tbh

  • mental outlaw, videos stopped being interesting

  • ik proprietary shitware and all that stuff but there are good games for playstation. fun to play, no pay to win bs like mobile phone games these days

  • ubuntu just feels like debian with unwanted mods on top. if some specific proprietary sw you need only support ubuntu officially then ubuntu's the better choice, but if not i see no reason to use it tbh

  • i believe it has the advantage of corporate interests not affecting the projects direction. i think linux is doing ok now (other than way too much redhat stuff) but i'm not sure if this is gonna continue after linus is gone.

  • freshrss most recently, very no hassle and easy setup, haven't had any issues.
