  • I will always be hated for this but fascism is necessary. It is the whip of the owning class. As long as you have capitalism, you have fascism.

    In more detail if you wish:

    Normal society: Person make chair, person sell chair, person eat

    Thats the "natural" way of things.

    Capitalism: Person make chair, person get tiny cut of chair because [mArKeTiNg cOsT, responsibility, land ownership and other bogus excuses], person eat less, capitalist eat more.

    People dont really accept this because it is not natural or fair. Therefore you need a couple of things, depending on the stage of capitalism:

    the carrot (you will have your own house! you will buy cool things! you can be rich!)

    the veil (propaganda, telling you why it is the only thing that works, why you just need to comply, because compliance will be rewarded...)

    the stick (a militarized police force that will shoot you if you dont comply)

    As you can see, all western states are currently going down the "military disguised as police" route. Why do you think that is? It is because the capitalists want more yachts.

    And after 100 years of propaganda, we actually believe there never has been a better system.

    Every citizen, irrespective of their nationality, skincolor, gender has the right to:

    • living quarters
    • work
    • maximum of 7 hours of work
    • free healthcare
    • paid vacation
    • equal pay and treatment for women
    • freedom of religion and speech

    This is directly taken from a 1936 constitution. Today one could improve on it but we're so much worse, everywhere.

    Now guess which one.

  • That is correct but also only half of the story.

    Reddit shut down dissenting voices which is huge in thought control. They shut down alternate apps, making poor people gobble up propaganda. The awards system, popularity contests, etc

    Thats not all of it but definitely enough to not touch it with a ten foot pole.

    Stuff is not important anyway, no matter where it is posted. I get input here, which is okay. But the most important part is: I dont get centrally controlled propaganda and am able to form my own input as I can handle it.

    What people like you dont understand is that there is no minimum requirement of knowledge to selfhost. It is completely braindead how often i have to tell people how a network works and now i have to explain to people why software configuration is not network configuration.

    I think I have to distinguish between my opinion on what a legal system should be vs what i think it is first.

    Imo a legal system should just elaborate on justice, ie equalizing between opposing parties on the fixed principles of ist foundation. For example if you have the rule that nobody shall be harmed, that includes all harm and no matter for what reason, except necessary to keep harm from others etc.

    What I think the legal system is in most countries (or rather has become, but i'll explain why that was the only choice anyway) is a way for the rich and powerful to excert power over the masses. You need to be insanely privileged to work in the legal system or to influence it, you need a lot of money to hire a lawyer, etc.

    The country i live in is infamous for its complicated and blown up legal system. It is exactly what I explained before.

    Why is it systemic? We have the issue that we live in an unfair system that thrives on inequality and left by itself it is cruel and heartless. A legal system needs to try its best to keep the cruel parts at bay which osnt possible long term. In socialist systems, despite their flaws, that is much easier because the system is based on similarity.

    I think we need a better system (you can guess) and then the legal system will collapse to the most basic stuff like theft, fights and such. The whole "legally stealing from customers" shtick will be gone.

  • Resilience. Federated social media is resilient against censoring and corporate takeover.

    It.does however not help with eee attacks which I why most of us block threads and a lot will block other fediverse sized (or larger) single instances of eg bluesky etc.

    Other, less important (to me) benefits are no algorithms, no profit motive, no ads.

    The fediverse is just better in any way.

  • I know. the issue is my friends dont have networks run by me. So I have to gain access to them and have to change setups which makes the situation likely to blow in my face. its just not a good solution imo. People have already suggested a relay server which will likely be the best solution.
