  • Beat me to it! :P

  • A bit hard to read but worth it!

  • I'm various flavours of neurodivergent. for all my life I've struggled doing anything, even things I enjoy. So I had to fight myself really hard to get competent at drawing/ painting, and I managed to get ok enough to get paid to do it.

Creating art is a multi step process. The part I enjoy the most is laying the foundation, creating a strong base drawing, there are subjects I also enjoy most. Like figure drawing or portraits... Doing landscapes/backgrounds or fully rendering a piece... i don't like too much. It's normal not to enjoy every part of the process and have certain inclinations/ preferences... that will also influence your style.

My advice is: show up to your sketchbook / canvas everyday no matter what. At least 30 min. Don't get too attached to the results "good" or "bad". Carry a small sketchbook and draw something when you are out and about .

Study the fundamentals. There's plenty of good material on youtube, but if you can, enroll in some classes to get feedback ( you can also post on c/artshare and ask for feedback there) . If you want to do comics, focus on perspective and gesture drawing/ anatomy. Maybe join.some figure drawing classes

  • My wingspan is.almost 2mts and I've been here as well :')

  • Thank you! I asked for clarification because I'm not a native english speaker and I didn't quite get the initial wording :)

  • I'm not a native english speaker, so I may have misunderstood:)

  • Hello, and thanks for stepping up.

    Bots and AI are cool...

Does this mean the no AI generated comics rule is gone?

Edit: no, it's still in place.

Honestly, I think most people here, me included, don't want AI content in this community. It's low effort and there's already other places for gen ai stuff :S please, reconsider this one.

  • Looking into it, yeah our hypothetical wrestler could be "El Chingaderas" a trickster type, who always comes up with some bullshit.

No problem! the word chingar is so versatile, I enjoy over explaining it. ;)

  • Chingadera is mostly used to express fustration at something that doesn't work right. It's akin to saying something is a "piece of junk" or when a situation is fucked up, etc.

thingamajig would be "chingaderita" diminutive of chingadera.

Something or someone cool is refered to as "Chingón" or ”Chingona" a wrestler could be named "el chingón" but it's too broad and over used, kind of lacks personal character.

Edited to add:/the meaning of being chingón /a is to be really good at something, not only cool.

  • I'm staunchly anti gen ai. Yesterday, while I was 12 hours into a terribly paid illustration work, I had the sad realization that this really could have been over, and better than I could ever do in 5 minutes with a couple of fucking ai prompts. I nearly broke down crying. I guess I 'm just not seeing value in myself anymore. Maybe I'm just sad and stupid today. Idk ... Sigh.
