  • Oh no no, they have NOT been riding this wave well.

Microsoft and Google have each invested like 200 billion into AI crap and Google wound up with a MUCH better product.

Apple has invested like 10% of that, choosing instead to outsource. IMO they are the real winners here (of the previously-established tech giants)

My prediction is that Anthropic will "win" the AI arms race in the US but it won't really matter because Deepseek continues to one-up them and OpenAI's bankruptcy will destroy the economy anyway

  • The real challenge is the lack of audience. 50 views would be something to celebrate on a federated video platform. There is no discoverability here

  • Yeah...I can't imagine being proud of the accomplishment if you're just following a step-by-step guide.

Like "Please recognize my artistic achievement" and it's this

  • I was a couple of attempts short of calling it quits on Simon in Clair Obscur. I don't like QTEs and the whole fight is "parry or die"

And yes I know now that I could have done the cheese strat of megabuffing Maille for a one shot but I think reading strategy guides for single player games is a major dork move

Afterward, I wasn't excited or proud. I was just relieved to not think about it anymore

  • Honestly, what comes next may be a lot better. Rapid fire swiping sucks and having an LLM match people based on what they write about themselves doesn't sound like the worst idea.

  • Think about that, though. How much heat does a satellite produce to necessitate large fin stacks? And how much heat does a data center produce?

  • That is a wildly unreasonable backup plan. Texas isn't gonna agree to split. California isn't gonna agree to split. Like the only state that might consider it is...Alaska? I don't know. I don't think yoconsidering what a massive undertaking that is.

It'd be easier to replace FPTP with something else. But if even that is too hard, the simplest solution is to just get rid of the electoral college. The popular vote is unaffected by state size and without the electoral college, "swing states" don't exist so campaigns would become more distributed across the country

  • Nostupidquestions is for questions you've been hesitant to ask for fear of sounding stupid, my favorite example being "am I supposed to wash a hoodie every time I wear it?"

I don't really think that applies here. Asklemmy is the general questions community

  • I went back and watched the video and ehhh I dunno, it's footage of old shows and concerts mixed with some really on-the-nose imagery. Though I don't disagree with your final point.

I haven't listened to it in awhile and I forgot the mix is pretty bad, too lol

  • Not really an onion headline, more like Buzzfeed or boredpanda

  • Yeah and he was making good music until he became one

  • I'm not judging but that's so funny considering Brian Molko's famously shrill voice. "The music is awesome, but that singer..." Is a response I got a lot introducing friends to Placebo

  • Yeah....but only because he's Johnny Cash. No way the cover was getting radio play if it was just some random old guy who recorded it

  • I'm not saying you're wrong but I do think the love of this cover is one of the most insane popular opinions in all of music. I will die on the hill that if it was anyone other than the man in black, everyone would agree.

It sounds so, so bad to me. People say you can really hear the hurt in his voice but he sounds no different than any old man who used to sing but hasn't kept up the practice. It's warbly and honestly sounds like shit. The instrumentation is equally boring

People (not you) say there's more emotion than the original but Trent Reznor sounds like he's actively going through withdrawals, expressing several different emotions as the song evolves.

Sorry for the rant. I'll cap it off by saying it's equally dumb to me that the song is about pain and regret but Cash's music video just....aggrandizes his life with a montage of classic Johnny Cash moments.

  • Green because it has the same vowel sound as the letter E in English.

  • So it is doubling down when you're proven wrong that gives you a pants tent or is it moving the goalposts that gets you going? Can't really tell between your two replies

  • I don't know whether that's a quote from something or fresh off the dome but that's an absolute banger of a line.

  • I am not downplaying the psychological effects of obesity but....Willpower is quite literally the ability to overcome your hormones/emotion and resist social pressure. It IS all you need, it's just really hard to learn. Especially nowadays with the societal pressure to be hot and how depressing the world is in general.

Comparing obesity to a cold is a false dichotomy as you most people can't simply avoid asymptomatic carriers. But if you insist on the comparison, we were absolutely vicious to people who got COVID because they chose to not wear masks (and rightfully so). I'm not suggesting we SHOULD be similarly mean to fat people, though.

I want to reiterate I'm not looking down on anyone for having weak willpower, mine is shit when there's a sweet treat in front of me. But I lost 5kg last year just by practicing at the grocery store. If there's junk food in my house, I know I'll pick it over real food every time. So I choose not to buy it.

  • I loved Monty Python as a kid but couldn't get into Dr. Who at all. It was too cheesy and I felt too old for it even at 10.
