    And on the topic of registrars, let me tell you about the bullshit I'm dealing with.

    Fuck gandi.net. If you have domains registered there, MOVE THEM ASAP. If the rest of my message doesn't convince you, maybe the fact that renewals cost $38 now will.

    They got bought out in 2023. I just found that out on Monday when the domain I've had there for 25 years expired (despite being set to autorenew)

    Just log in, right? Well my dumb ass uses that domain as a catch-all inbox. My gandi account email is [name]-gandi@[domain].com. And they use 2FA.

    They don't list a phone number and their live chat window is 8-11am Paris time. So every day this week I've been waking up at 4am to talk to them.

    Monday: I tell them the situation. They tell me I can click the button to send the code to my phone. This button does not exist. They tell me they will email a form to fill to change the email address.

    Tuesday: I concluded that if they sent it at all, it must have been to the old email. They say they will send it again. This time it works

    Wednesday: having submitted the form, photos of my license, and a selfie holding my ID and the form, they respond saying I need to retake the photo because part of the form was cropped. The white space. Not the text. I provide.

    Thursday: I sit in live chat queue for 30+ minutes until the time window closes. 15 minutes before it was supposed to

    Today: Nothing.

    Sorry to commandeer your post with a rant but I am so pissed about domains this week.

  • There are downsides to consider...

    1. Most people aren't really phased by doorbell cameras....but everyone feels a security camera pointed at them
    2. The angle is generally worse for this purpose
    3. Unlike a doorbell, there is likely no existing data line or even power
    4. No way to sugarcoat it, security cameras kind of looks like shit. The best you can hope for is one that doesn't stick out too bad

    There's options for decent-looking doorbell cameras without all the fuss. I use Amcrest, I know a lot of others use Reolink

  • OP has been getting called out for this from the start and it wasn't always aggressive. Instead of adjusting to that feedback (if they even saw it - not like they were active in the comments), they doubled down and added more subreddits to the bot.

    Then they made this unhinged whine basically saying "Stop complaining, you morons obviously don't realize how great I am or what's best for you"

    I would rather Lemmy be 100% OC with a handful of posts per day than for it to be yet another bucket where you can dump ancient memes. We've got enough sites like that.

    Also, definitely a bot. Your clipboard isn't truncating post titles when you manually copy and paste shit from reddit.

    Also also, you're not a creator. Why would an actual creator be incentivized to use a site where 99% of it is shit stolen from reddit? Wouldn't they prefer a site with fellow creators?

    Let's get one thing out of the way first: you've admitted that your posts are automated, as if it wasn't obvious. You're a bot. You're not tagged as one, but sanitation@lemmy.today is a bot that a human sometimes uses.

    Now as for the content you bot, I don't have an issue with a lot of it. Go ahead and post your links and memes. Meme culture is built on theft, anyway. I don't dislike you any more than any other mass poster who is rarely present in the comments of their posts

    It's the content you steal from OC communities that drives me crazy. You justify it as "encouraging content" but that sure hasn't planned out - you're the dominant poster in every com you repost to.

    You take every joke from shittymoviedetails and, by not linking the source, basically claim it as your own. But don't think the solution is to include a link. Just don't repost it at all.

    You copy and paste other people's complaints to a community for venting about minor gripes. And since they're not YOUR complaints, you aren't getting the catharsis of the original poster. You're literally just spreading negativity. This one especially pisses me off because THAT COMMUNITY WAS DOING FINE before you flooded it.

    If you're gonna be a spambot, at least show us the respect of fixing your shitty repost machine to deal with long titles.
