  • I tried out Bookwyrm in early summer this year. It is very underdeveloped and the app is just a web viewer, but I still love the idea and track my books with it.

    Then, after 3 years of Lemmy/Piefed and always telling "microblogging isn't for me", I noticed a couple of people/organizations I like are active on mastodon - for example from the privacy scene in Germany, some Genealogy stuff and also all the governmental organizations. Is use it now every couple of days similar to my RSS news feed and really like it so far.

  • On the other side I don't want to engage in discussions that are over. The Threadiverse is organized in a wayz where new content is favored in your feed. Of course there are discussions that stretch over a couple of days, but after, they die. And I think this is just the way it works, it is not meant to show all posts ever made in an equal way.

    It's not a very grateful job. Many developers provide an option to make donations, but often don't promote it too hard. So if you do not have a dedicated person organizing a crowdfunding campaign but concentrate on development instead, it's nearly impossible to reach such sums. Often you also get pressured by the community.

  • I was hosting a session of 7 days to die some weeks ago from Linux Mint and it didn't work (worked the 3 times before). Everyone was like uhh yeah, probably a Linux problem?I reminded them of the trillion hours they spent in their lives fixing a multiplayer server on Windows and if it ever came to their mind that Windows could be the problem. They agreed and apologized quickly.

    People tend to forget how much tinkering they need to do on Windows to run stuff. How often did I try some "compatibility mode stuff" to execute an old game on Windows?

  • I look on reddit for basic discussion, but there are usually specific forums like HiFi forum, I am pretty sure there is a community for cameras as well. I compare stuff on geizhals.de, which is an independent comparison portal for the German region. Often I don't but anything at all because the internet is so annoying. I don't pay for Jeff Bezos' wedding so Amazon is out of question.
