Hallo ich mache Philosophie, Technik und Gesellschaft.

  • a woman who knows how to use her power

  • i assume F150 is an electric vehicle. electricity doesn't come from nowhere. where does the energy come from?

  • then where does energy come from?

  • yes i know. sadly a lot of big scrappers don't do that, instead they scrap the web interface. which is significantly inefficient so it slows down the service for everyone else.

  • that checks out

  • well it feels like one

  • wtf. why does my browser send such an uniquely identifying token. wtf

(there's more to the right of it, i cut it to preserve privacy)

    WTF

TIL. the way trackers can do stuff

  • yeah i get your point but that's not what i meant. i'm using VPNs to do google searches, for example, in incognito browsing tab. so google knows the 10k searches i did, but it cannot connect them to each other, as session cookies between them are deleted each time i close the browser (which is about every few minutes). and i don't log in to any account in the incognito tab either, so it can't use account identities as fixed points either. and it cannot associate the queries by IP address either.

    edit:

after seeing this website ... https://amiunique.org/fingerprint i get what you mean now. i have to think about this.

  • hmm i'm not entirely sure either but it seems like fediverse content should be easily archivable.

probably this is another engineering challenge to think about once that i have checks notes a few months of free time ...

  • ?

  • it helps to clarify one's mind from time to time :)

  • a lot of lemmy servers use anubis to hinder bots. it's quite effective actually. makes the bots do some hard cryptographic riddles before accessing data. insignificant for human users who only read 100 posts but significant for bots who want to read millions of posts.

  • meanwhile i'm using VPNs in browser's incognito mode to not be tracked

That's not what a VPN or incognito modes do.

VPNs prevent the site from attaching an IP address to the site visit, and incognito mode means that browser cookies routinely get scrapped.

  • i do that all the time. i didn't realize it's because of insomnia

  • "qu'ack?" got me. incredible how a single ' can make the entire thing sound french

  • the point with the Have's and Have Not's is an interesting argument. yet, you lack vision. the system you describe is (obviously) not sustainable, because ultimately you're gonna run out of Have Not's resources to spend. You need to develop your vision for a better world, one that can actually feed us all without slowly ruining it.

And sustainable housing is surely a part in this.

  • fediverse is the new blogosphere. why tf would i want to read an article that i can't even comment on?

  • actually i think it's more like 1% full.

  • i just calculated that 1 MWh is about 300 kg of fuel (that it replaces) a day. so in 2 weeks, that's maybe 5 t of fuel that it saves? that does not seem so much to me.
