  • I'm sure I'm missing out, but i have no interest in using chatbots and other LLMs etc. It floors me to see how much attention they get though, how much resources are being dumped into their development and use. Nuclear plants being reopened for the sake of AI?!!

    I also assume there's a lot of things they're capable of that could be huge for science, and there's likely lots of big things happening behind closed doors that we're yet to see in the coming years. I know it's not all just chatbots.

    The way this article strikes me though, is that it's pretty much just wasting resources for parlor-game level output. I don't know if i like the idea of people giving up their ability to write a basic letter or essay, not that my opinion on the matter is gonna change anything obviously 😅

    I realize this may be a bit of a stretch for some, but an artist called Lindsheaven Virtual Plaza took the opening track Cluster One and made a sprawling 17-minute piece combining portions of the song with his own ambient additions...   • Been ages since I've listened to it until just the other day i took it for a spin. Funny how much i still remember, even those ridiculous Raleigh soliloquies. That really is a great album, crazy how young they were making such good music

All those captchas that want you to pick out cars or bikes etc, Pokemon game that wants you to scan locations for free items... It simply never occurred to me that these were actually just ways to train AI surreptitiously

  • That is certainly a possible solution. However I also think a lot of folks simply don't have the time to commit in addition to their regular jobs and responsibilities. Guess that's how we wound up with so wealthy people in politics... they got all that free time ⏰ (and they think they know what's best for everyone else too, perhaps? 🙃)
